Asha Parekh death: Bollywood furious at Rajdeep Sardesai & Sanjay Manjrekar’s ill-informed tweets!

Asha Parekh

The ‘death hoax’ game is pretty popular on Twitter these days. Right after Bollywood actress Nanda passed away on March 25, there was a buzz on Twitter that veteran playback singer Lata Mangeshkar has suffered a heart attack. The rumours died down only when the singer tweeted that she was absolutely fine.

And today, it was the turn of another Bollywood actress, Asha Parekh, who had to face the rumours of her own death on Twitter – even as she had just finished sharing condolence messages for her late friend Nanda.

It was apparently started by former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar who later realised his mistake and tweeted, “Sincerest apology to Ms Parekh..won’t trust one news source anymore…imp lesson learnt.”

Rajdeep Sardesai, Editor-in-Chief, IBN18 Network also tweeted about Asha Parekh’s death, without cross-checking the information! He later deleted his ill-informed tweet and apologised for it, saying he had “learnt a big lesson”. Nevertheless, he faced the ire of Twitter users, celebs like Resul Pookutty and Kamaal R Khan, who did not spare him for being so casual, being the head honcho of a serious news channel like CNN-IBN.

Here are some of the must-read tweets bashing Rajdeep Sardesai for Asha Parekh death rumour:

Rajdeep Sardesai ‏@sardesairajdeep: Deep apologies; now told my info on Ms Parekh passing away is wrong. Picked it up from a tweet. Apologies to all and esp to her.

Rajdeep Sardesai ‏@sardesairajdeep: Big lesson learnt: apologies again. Will be much much more careful.

Resul Pookutty @resulp: @sardesairajdeep I followed you blindly and feel terrible now….Sorry once again!

KamaaI R Khan – KRK ‏@SirKRK: “@sardesairajdeep India’s premier news channel’s top anchor picking up stories from tweets & sharing them without verifying. SHAME. Aak Thoo”

We surely hope this is a big lesson learnt for Sanjay and especially Rajdeep!
