The Filmfare Awards, being the top notch award ceremony of our cinema industry, is always held with lot of extravagance. The 59th Filmfare Awards, held on January 24, was no different from its previous years, with the same level of energy and excitement displayed by all the attendees. The glam divas, be it the show’s co-host Priyanka Chopra in a stunning Alexander McQueen dress or Deepika Padukone in a golden gown holding the Black Lady, were looking gorgeous. Every damsel in town did not mind going that extra mile to look their best for the biggest night of the year. Their effort reflected on what they wore for the red carpet and how they carried themselves the entire evening. Each one looked to outdo the other. There were many who looked completely stunning while some failed to impress us.
We present you some of the showstealers and some debacles from the Filmfare Awards 2014 evening.
Looking gorgeous in a Alexander McQueen peplum gown, she was the best dressed star of the evening. She flaunted her perfect figure in the black dress with a golden viscose leaf. With side-parted wavy hair and only dangling earrings used as accessories she must have made the coveted Black Lady go green with envy.
She was the star of the night – being the Best Actress awardee – but she disappointed her fans with the choice of outfit. Wearing a Gaurav Kapoor golden sheer gown, Dips looked more of a gift wrapper! And the matching golden stilettos only added to the misery. The only saving grace was the side swept hair, the red lipstick and, of course, her million dollar smile.
She never really fails to impress. No we are not talking about her movies, but her fashion sense. She chose to wear an off-shoulder halter neck black dress to walk the red carpet. And she did a fairly good job. Teaming the Gauri and Nainika gown with golden earrings and a top bun completed her overall look.
Kalki chose to go play it safe by wearing a Sabyasachi Mukherjee creation. The finely embroidered black dress gave a very ethnic feel. And thank god she ditched the buns to leave her hair open which added to her oval face.
The Dedh Ishqiya girl sported a Gauri and Nainika architect dress. Looking voluptuous in the blue dress, she gracefully walked the red carpet. Her side curled bangs with pink lipstick gave a subtle appearance.
Gauri and Nainika found another loyalist in actor Tamannaah for the evening. In a different but effective high neck red dress, the South siren looked simply marvellous.
This Kapoor girl impresses onlookers each time with her unique sense of style. She wore an Anamika Khanna creation that looked like a mix of a saree and a gown and teamed it with a heavily embroidered jacket. It gave a very royal look to Karisma Kapoor.
Soha Ali Khan
In a Ken Ferns strapless gown, Soha Ali Khan walked hand in hand with her boyfriend Kunal Khemu. She looked every inch the fashionista at the ceremony.
Aditi Rao Hydari
She wore a Gaurav Gupta gown, and matching her silver sheer dress, she sported a silver headpiece. She did look chic amongst her contemporaries.
Kajol, Tanuja and Tanisha Mukherji
The mother-and-daughters trio is making public appearances together quite often now. While Kajol opted for a Nandita Mahtani gown, her sister Tanisha chose a black gown with side slits and some cleavage show. Tanuja, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award, kept it elegant with a cream saree and purple lipstick.
Best Female Debut Award winner Vaani Kapoor seems to be trying too hard to get attention. Wearing a Nikhil Thampi purple dress with almost bare back and thigh high slit, she did portray an ultra sexy avatar but nothing that could be called classy.
She looked another case of style gone wrong. Sophie looked out of sync in the BCBG strapless dress with plunging neckline. Everything from the use of bold colored gown to emerald earrings and golden clutch looked a mismatch.
Something was terribly wrong with girls wearing high slit for the evening. Wearing a peach thigh high slit gown, Prachi Desai always looked on the verge of suffering a dress malfunction. The huge sash around her waist and matching golden clutch with open toed stilettos only worsened the getup.
Whoever said Bollywood maidens do not believe in experimenting should see Dia Mirza’s look for the awards night. She draped an off-white golden saree over black trousers and blouse! She was running late for the event and draped it on the way. Sorry we do not have better explanation than this to describe her fashion blunder. But come to think of it, she looks quite cool in the dishevelled look.
Another Divya Dutta fashion debacle – that’s what we’ll say. Again choosing to go with a multi-layered pink and purple Anarkali dress, the actor made a rather forgettable red carpet appearance.
The best actor of the year, Farhan Akhtar, should really bail out his wife from her disastrous style sense. Wearing a golden and purple floor length Payal Khandwala creation that resembled a ghaghra, Adhuna looked more pathetic than stylish. And what is with the elongated black collar over the blouse, we wonder!
What did you think of the style at the Filmfare Awards 2014 ceremony?
