The world-famous New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) has officially kicked-off at Manhattan’s Jacob Javits Convention Center this week. Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids are dominating this year’s show, with a number of leading automakers gearing up to make eco-friendly cars next year’s biggest automotive trend.

“We are at the tipping point where technology, engineering, sport, marketing and customer preferences are starting to come together in the form of electric transportation, and this year’s New York International Auto Show is the place to see it all,” said Mark Schienberg, president of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association. “With more than 60 world and North American debuts, many of them are focusing on the future of mobility through electric vehicles, this year’s show is the place to explore for environmentally-savvy New Yorkers.”

While we may be decades away before flying cars are a reality, as predicted in the 1985 cinematic thriller, “Back to the Future,” electric vehicles are headed full-speed into the public mainstream. From the world’s first self-driving, all-electric smart car, to EVs with a driving range of more than 200 miles with a single charge, attendees at this year’s NYIAS will get a glimpse at the most innovative, environmentally-conscious vehicles the world has to offer.
