Ford India, the Indian wing of American automotive giant Ford Motor, has reported an increase in its sales across the country to 21,004 units in November 2016. This is up from 17,189 units sold in November 2015. Domestic wholesale sales alone dropped from 8,773 to 6,876 over the 12-month period, but exports recorded staggering growth from just 8,416 units to 14,128 in November 2016.
Citing a recent survey done by a major car magazine, Ford said that its products are amongst the most affordable when compared to its current crop of competitors. This highlights the company’s positive outlook for the Indian market. Ford seems to be seeing a lot of promise in the market, as evidenced by another November announcement made by Ford Motor executive William Clay Ford Jr. On his visit to India, he announced that the company will be investing nearly USD 195 million (INR 1,300 crore) in the Ford Global Technology and Business Center that will operate in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. With this investment, the company will be boosting its business services and product development within the country. Apart from product development, the investment will also help boost India’s mobility solutions and manufacturing sectors. Also Read: Next-gen Ford Fiesta 2017 unveiled; gets four variants
Anurag Mehrotra, executive director, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford India, said, “While the macro-economic indicators continue to be positive, the auto industry does face short term headwinds given the recent demonetization drive.
“Our strategy of product led innovation, a differentiated customer experience, and breaking the myth on our cost of ownership has ensured that Ford continues to grow faster than the industry since the start of 2016.”
Finally, Ford India has announced that it has started bookings for its Ford Mustang across India. The Mustang is being priced at INR 65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Before this, bookings for the popular car was only limited to the key regions of Mumbai and Delhi. The limited available was part of Ford’s first phase of launch from July 2016. The Mustang is being powered by a V8 petrol engine that delivers around 395 bhp of peak power.
