Toyota India has started taking bookings for its luxury brand, Lexus, in India. While bookings have already been started, deliveries for the Lexus cars in India will start from March 2017. Toyota Kirloskar Motor will initially introduce only three Lexus vehicles in India and looking at market demand, the company might consider bringing in more models. Interestingly, the first Lexus dealership in India will be opened in Mumbai. The Lexus Mumbai dealership will be located at Taj Santacruz Hotel, near Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and will be named Lexus Boutique.
The three vehicles to be offered in India by the company will be the Lexus RX450h and the Lexus LX450d premium SUVs while the company will also launch a luxury sedan called the Lexus ES300h. Initially, the company will be importing all the cars into the country via the CBU route from Japan. The Lexus RX450h is a premium SUV that is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine that is coupled to a hybrid electric motor. The hybrid power-train is capable of producing 308 BHP of maximum power while the engine comes mated to an e-CVT transmission. On the other hand, the Lexus LX450d premium SUV shares its underpinnings with the Toyota Land Cruiser. The LX450d is powered by a 4.5-litre twin-turbo V8 diesel engine that is capable of pumping out 269 BHP of maximum power along with a humungous peak torque of 650 Nm. The SUV also gets a petrol variant called LX570 which sources power from a 5.7-litre V8 petrol engine that churns out an astonishing 383 BHP of maximum power while developing 546 Nm of peak torque. The Lexus LX450d or the LX570 will compete against the likes of the Audi Q7, Mercedes GLS, BMW X5 and the Land Rover Range Rover. The Lexus LX450d is expected to be priced in the range of INR 1.5 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).
Coming on to the sedan, the Lexus ES300h is based on the Toyota Camry. The Lexus ES300h is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol unit along with an electric motor. The hybrid power-train produces 200 BHP of maximum power and comes mated a CVT automatic transmission. The ES300h is expected to be priced around INR 50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and will compete against the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the BMW 5-Series and the Audi A6. Apart from the Lexus Mumbai Boutique outlet, the company will open dealerships across various Indian cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Chennai and Cochin respectively by the end of next year. The company will also open separate after sales service outlets that will be exclusive to Lexus cars in India.
