Bajaj has today launched a new initiative called Invincible Indians, aimed at recognising and honouring common citizens of the country who go above and beyond the call of duty towards their community and country. The move is part of the company’s efforts to promote the Bajaj V15, the 150 cc motorcycle made with the metal of former Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. The automaker has also launched a section on its website as part of the initiative. Today, it felicitated five of the citizens recognised through the initiative. Indian Olympic Gold medalist Abhinav Bindra was in attendance, along with Rajiv Bajaj, the company’s Managing Director. The event also saw the release of five stories focused on the achievements of these five incredible individuals.
The five individuals include Chewang Norphel, who helped resolve the perennial water crisis in Ladakh by creating 15 artificial glaciers. He was presented in 2015 with the Padma Shree, the fourth highest civilian honour in the country. Bipin Ganatra, another recipient, was recognised for his efforts as a volunteer fire-fighter in Kolkata, helping in rescue operations in over 100 fires in the city. Omkar Nath Sharma was recognised for travelling across Delhi NCR to collect unused medicines and distribute them to hospitals and clinics serving the less fortunate. Vijaylaxmi Sharma led a movement to combat the menace of child marriage that is present in many villages across Rajasthan, and Karimul Hoque converted his motorcycle into an ambulance, offering it free of cost, 24×7. The videos showcase what these courageous individuals have achieved, and the Bajaj website presents more such stories on other individuals who inspire respect through their actions towards the welfare of the country. Abhinav Bindra, speaking on the initiative, said, “I am extremely glad that Bajaj V has taken this noble step in recognizing these individuals who have dedicated their lies in doing extraordinary social work. Many a time, such heroic acts go untold and these heroes fade away in the pages of history. I am truly proud to be associated with this endeavour and urge every Indian to come forward in supporting it.”
Eric Vas, President of Bajaj Auto’s motorcycle business, said, “V is a unique brand which has been forged with the pride of the nation, the metal of the INS Vikrant. Our endeavour is to make Indians feel proud every day. ‘Invincible Indians’ is our way of bringing a few such stories of pride to the fore. We are honoured to have felicitated five such people today, but we also know that there are many more people out there who are doing equally good work and deserve to be recognized and lauded for their selfless work.”
