Japanese automotive giant, Suzuki Motor Corporation yesterday launched the all new Suzuki Ignis compact crossover in UK. The car is priced UK in the range of £9,999 to £13,999 which translates to INR 8.66 lakh to INR 12.13 lakh in Indian currency. With this, the company has revealed the features and specifications of the Ignis which will soon be launched in India. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis was first unveiled in India at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. The Ignis will be positioned below the Maruti Baleno and will be sold exclusively through the NEXA dealerships. The India launch of the Maruti Ignis is expected to take place in February 2017. The car is expected to be priced in the range of INR 4 lakh to INR 7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Maruti Suzuki Ignis Interiors & Features
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is currently on sale in the Japanese market while the car made its European debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show earlier this year and is expected to go on sale by early 2017. The UK-spec model comes with features like six airbags, ALLGRIP ‘AUTO’ 4WD system, SHVS hybrid technology, wheel arch extensions, dual camera brake support, radar brake system and cruise control system among others. Most of these features will be omitted on the India-spec model to keep costs low. Other features on the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will include SmartPlay touch-screen infotainment system, automatic climate control and heated front seats among others, while safety features include dual front airbags along with side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program (ESP). Maruti Suzuki Ignis Exteriors & Dimensions
Dimensionally, the Maruti Ignis measures at 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width and 1,595 mm in height along with a decent wheelbase of 2,438 mm while the compact crossover gets a ground clearance of 180 mm. On the exteriors front, the car gets projector headlamps, U-shaped LED daytime running lights, bulging wheel arches on the sides along with LED rear taillights. The well designed front bumper gets round fog lamp cluster that are flanked by large air intakes on either side while the neatly designed rear bumper gets black plastic cladding on it to accentuate the sporty design character of the Ignis.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Engine Specifications
The UK-spec Suzuki Ignis is powered by a 1.2-litre DualJet VVT petrol engine coupled to Suzuki’s SHVS hybrid motor that is capable of producing 89 BHP of maximum power along with 120 Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to the wheels via a 5-speed gearbox while the car also comes equipped with an optional ALLGRIP 4WD system. Meanwhile, the Indian version of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis compact crossover will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options that will be borrowed from the Maruti Baleno. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series 4-cylinder petrol engine that pumps out 84 BHP of maximum power and 114 Nm of peak torque while the oil burner is powered by a 1.3-litre DDiS 4-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 74 BHP of power and 190 Nm of peak torque. The diesel variant is also expected to come equipped with Suzuki’s SHVS mild hybrid technology. Transmission duties on the Ignis will be handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox while AMT will be offered as an option.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Launch Date & Expected Price
The launch of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is expected to take place after the launch Maruti Baleno RS which will happen in January 2017. So expect the Ignis to launch in India by February-March 2017. Being a premium offering, the Ignis will be sold exclusively through the NEXA premium dealerships and we expect the car to be priced in the range of INR 4 lakh to INR 7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Maruti Ignis will compete against the Mahindra KUV100.
