German automotive giant, Volkswagen, is all set to launch the new Volkswagen Tiguan in India tomorrow. Recently, Volkswagen officially teased the Tiguan on the company’s website confirming the launch of the SUV in the country. Volkswagen India has already started production of the Tiguan at the company’s facility in Aurangabad. Bookings for the SUV are already underway at Volkswagen dealerships across India at an amount of INR 1 lakh. According to media reports, the Tiguan is expected to be priced at INR 24 lakh for the base variant while the top-end variant is expected to be priced at INR 30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). As per the leaked details, the company will introduce the new generation Tiguan SUV in two variants – Comfortline and Highline. The Highline variant will be more feature and equipment rich in comparison to that of Comfortline variant. In terms of safety, the SUV will be equipped with 6-airbags, ABS, ESC, ASR, EDL, EDTC, reverse parking camera, self sealing tyres, ISOFIX mounts, tyre pressure monitoring system, rain sensor, park distance control-front and rear, automatic headlamp leveler, rear fog lamps, front fog lamps with cornering lights, front and rear disc brakes and much more. The equipment list on the Tiguan SUV will comprise of panaromic sunroof, leather upholstery, 3-zone air conditioning with rear controls, leather wrapped steering wheel, auto dimming IRVM, ambient lighting, adjustable lumbar support for driver’s seat, heat insulated windshield, electrically adjustable front seats, 8-inch infotainment system, auto hold, paddle shift, Eco drive function, drive alert system, hill descent control, 8-speakers and much more. Under the hood, the SUV will be powered by a 2.0 liter diesel engine that can develop 143 PS of max power against the peak torque of 330 Nm and comes mated to a 7 speed automatic gearbox that will transmit power to all the four wheel via 4Motion system. Expected to be priced in the range of INR 24 lakh to INR 30 lakh (ex-showroom), the all new Tiguan SUV will be pitted against the likes of the Toyota Forturner, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Endeavour and the upcoming Jeep Compass.
