New Delhi, September 13: At a mega event at the opulent Steve Jobs Theater on the new Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California on Tuesday, Apple finally unveiled three new iPhones- iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, as well as upgrades for the Apple Watch, Apple TV and Airpod wireless headphones on Tuesday. iPhone ‘X’–an ultra-premium model has a gorgeous all-glass design and delivers an innovative and secure new way for customers to unlock, authenticate and pay using Face ID, enabled by the new TrueDepth camera.
Apple also launched iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus with new glass and aluminium design and A11 Bionic chip designed for augmented reality (AR) experience. Both the phones come with 64GB and 256GB capacity models starting at Rs 64,000 at Apple Authorised Resellers. iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus enable the freedom of wireless charging, all with AR optimisation like no phone ever before.
Availability and pre-order
The newly launched iPhone X will cost Rs 89,000 in India for the 64GB variant while the 256GB version will cost Rs 102,000 from November 3 in India. The pre-order of the device will begin from October 27. Apple offers an edge-to-edge 5.8-inch display and an OLED display for the very first time, calling it the Super Retina Display. The latest feature in iPhone X is that it will not have a home button. The iPhone X is also water and dust resistant. It’s made from surgical-grade, stainless steel and comes in two finishes: space gray and silver.
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus:
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are a new generation of iPhone that improve on everything we love about iPhone. The iPhone 8 64GB price costs Rs 64,000 while 256GB variant will be available for Rs 77,000. The iPhone 8 Plus starts at Rs 73,000 for 64GB while the 256GB variant will cost Indian users Rs 86,000. Both the phones come with advanced cameras with Portrait mode and Portrait Lighting, and the highest quality video capture in a smartphone, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus enable the freedom of wireless charging, all with AR optimisation like no phone ever before. Customers can pre-order the devices from September 15 and the phones will be available from September 29.
Both, the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus launched with A11 Bionic processor. A11 Bionic is the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone that features a six-core CPU design with two performance cores that are 25 per cent faster and four efficiency cores that are 70 per cent faster than the A10 Fusion.
Apple Watch Series 3
Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Series 3 smartwatch on Tuesday at the mega event. Apple Watch Series 3 will cost Rs 29,900 with cellular connectivity. Series 1 is now priced at 21,900. The Apple Watch Series 3 offers the ability to make phone calls but this feature will not be available in India and many other markets. CEO Cook said with 50 per cent year-on-year growth, Apple Watch is the number one watch brand in the world, eclipsing Rolex, with 97 per cent customer satisfaction.
Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) also debuts a special red Digital Crown and exclusive “Explorer” watch face that shows cellular connectivity through a unique design. You can keep the same number as your iPhone to make and receive calls. Maps will work on Series 3. The location will switch over to your watch automatically. Apple Music will come to Apple Watch which will allow users to stream directly 40 million songs.
Apple TV 4K
Apple also introduced “Apple TV 4K” to deliver a stunning cinematic experience at home with the support for both 4K and High Dynamic Range (HDR). The Apple TV 4K starts at Rs 15,900 for 32GB and Rs 17,900 for 64GB. Apple TV 4K would deliver sharp, crisp images, richer, more true-to-life colour and greater detail in both dark and bright scenes, the company said in a statement. Customers will be able to order both Apple TV 4K models from September 15 with availability beginning from September 22 in the US and 21 additional countries and regions and worldwide soon after through select Apple Authorised Resellers.
