Mumbai, October 12: Users and lovers of Apple Inc. have a good news. They won’t have to roam around here and there from now onwards as Apple has decided to open their own retail stores in India. In a confirmed news, Apple has collaborated with Indian conglomerate Tata and would open its chain of stores under ‘Crome’ at six locations in Mumbai and Bangaluru on a pilot basis. With this, a new chapter of technological expansion in the country has begun. The stores are likely to come up by this Diwali, i.e. next month.
Initially, the stores would be opened at the branded stores of Crome’ in Mumbai at Malad, Juhu, Oberoi Mall, Phoenix Mall and Ghatkopar and one at Bengaluru in this will be at Croma in Jayanagar. While the Apple confirmed that the stores will be as spacious as 400-500 square feet in area, it also mentioned that the company would train the staff personally so that the quality standard of the company is maintained. The company which owns more than 460 stores in 17 countries — more than half in the US, has 40 such outlets in China while none in the service sector country — India. Till now the Apple products were sold through premium resellers who run exclusive brand stores under the franchise model. As the Apple products are quite popular among the Indian consumers, they have to go through a long process of acquiring the phones, laptops and ipods by the online retail shops like Amazon and flipkart, and sometime pay huge to the branded stores who are under the franchise models. With the Apple taking route of Crome, the company will get an opportunity to control the consumer experience without getting into the loop of bureaucratic loops.
Over the last three years, Apple has increased its sale in India with its initiative to team up with carriers and banks to make its phones and gadgets easily approachable to the consumers on a contract basis. The recently launched product of Apple — iPhone 6s and 6s Plus — will be available in the Indian market from October 16 and has been priced at Rs 62,000 onwards. Also its watch — Apple Watch — is scheduled to be available in India by Diwali and what more could be a surprise if this the product they would start with in their stores in India. According to market tracker Counter-Point Research, Apple sold 1.7 million iPhones in India between October 2014 and September 2015, in comparison to 1.1 million units in the year-earlier period.
