New Delhi, November 14: Linking Aadhaar with Bank accounts, phone numbers, insurance policies, PAN, PPF, NSC, LPG connections has become mandatory now. The government is expanding scope of Aadhaar linkage to more essentials to helop customers avail a large number of benefits. Aadhaar has become an integral part of our lives and a host of government schemes demand the Aadhaar Linking process. Linking of Aadhaar to PAN, Public Provident Fund (PPF), National Savings Certificates (NSC), Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) schemes, social security schemes and mutual funds has to be done by December 31 while linking Aadhaar with SIM card has to be done by February 6, 2018.

Banks have urged their customers to link the Aadhaar card before December 31. In a bid to remind customers of linking the two documents., banks have been constantly sending SMS to their customers to avoid last minute hassle. Banks have also announced different ways to link Aadhaar card – SMS, through ATM and by visiting a branch at the earliest. Aadhaar or Unique Identity Number (UID) – the 12-digit identification issued by the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) based on biometric data.  The government has made the PAN-Aadhaar linking mandatory for filing ITR (Income Tax Return) and obtaining a new Permanent Account Number (PAN) from July 1.

Here’s how you can check your Aadhaar card linking status with your bank

  1. The user will have to visit the UIDAI official website-  https://uidai.gov.in/ 
  2.  Go to ‘Aadhaar Services’ section on the right side of the website and click on ‘Check Aadhaar & Bank Account Linking Status’1

3. The user will be redirected to a new page where you will need to enter your 12-digit unique Aadhaar number and the security code displayed on the screen and click on “send OTP”2

4. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and click on ‘Login’.

If your Aadhaar number is linked to your bank account, the website will show “Congratulations! Your Bank Aadhaar Mapping has been done” along with your bank name, linking status and linking date.  As per recent details, the Department of Telecom (DoT) has introduced a new OTP- or One Time Password-based option to link Aadhaar with mobile connection. According to the UIDAI, mobile users will be able to link their mobile SIM with Aadhaar number from the comfort of their homes from December 1, 2017 through an OTP (One-Time Pin) received on the mobile number registered with Aadhaar.
