New Delhi, June 19: Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio is now wooing customers by offering 20 percent more data on purchase of LYF smartphone. Jio’s new offer is limited and is valid for Jio’s paid Prime users as well as new customers who sign up for services. Reports state that the scheme has been valid for purchase made on or after June 9 or till the stocks last.
Reliance Jio informed on its website that the latest attractive deal is valid for about 10 LYF brand smartphones that include Earth 1, Earth 2, Water 1, Water 7S, Water 8, Water 10, Water 11, F1, F1S and Wind 4S. The 20% more data scheme will be applicable on purchases made on or after June 9 and till stocks last, Jio added. The new customers purchasing any of the LYF smartphones under the offer, with a recharge of Rs. 309 or Rs. 509, are entitled to one additional 4G data voucher of 6 GB or 12 GB respectively. Jio informed that the additional data will be credited within 48 hours of recharge.
The offer cannot be used with any other offer or promotion. The additional data vouchers can be availed for a maximum of six recharges during the entitlement period – between June 9, 2017 and March 31st, 2018, Jio was quoted in a report by NDTV. Earlier this week, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) came up with a new data plan for its subscribers to counter Jio’s disruptive offers under the name Chaukka 444. The plan offers users to avail unlimited data benefits for a time period of 90 days. The new promotional plan can only be availed by the network provider’s prepaid users.
In the last week, rival Bharti Airtel had criticized Reliance Jio of predatory pricing and demanded that operators be paid more for calls terminating on their networks as also the right to retain customers through incentives. Meanwhile, Idea argued that Interconnection Usage Charges (IUC) that is paid by one telecom operator to another for connecting phone calls need to be correctly determined to “prevent predatory voice pricing environment”.
As per a report released by Bank of America Merill Lynch, around 90 per cent of Reliance Jio users are estimated to have subscribed to its promotional Prime membership plan. The report further added saying that around 76 per cent are ready to continue using Jio’s service once the promotional period ends. “80 per cent of users have only one Jio SIM…90 per cent are Prime members, 84 percent claim to have paid Jio the monthly top-up as well,” the report mentioned.
