Mumbai, Jul 28: The rupee weakened by two paise to 60.12 against the US dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on increased demand for the American currency from importers.

Besides, dollar’s strength against other currencies overseas also weighed on the rupee but a higher opening in the domestic equity markets capped losses, dealers said.

The rupee had edged up by two paise to end at 60.10 against the American currency in Friday’s trade on dollar selling by exporters. Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex was up 55.08 points, or 0.21 per cent, at 26,181.83 in early trade today.
