Indian weightlifter P Gururaja bags silver in the 56kg category of weightlifting on the first competition day of the 21st Commonwealth Games 2018. The 25-year-old Gururaja came second to Malaysia’s Muhammad Azroy Hazalwafie Izhar Ahmad got gold with a record total of 261kg. Gururaja failed in his first two attempts in the clean and jerk round, but he lifted 138 kg in his third. With a total of 249 kgs, he clinched the silver medal. Gururaja is a low-ranking Indian Air Force employee and a son of a truck driver. He had aspired to be a wrestler for the longest time before being pushed into weightlifting by a vigilant coach who saw potential in him.
Gururaja has made Indians proud as it is just day 1 of the Commonwealth Games. Celebrities, Politicians, Cricketers, and others are pouring their love.
