Ahead of Valentine’s Day, Nestle Launches Pink Chocolate KitKat In Japan And Korea; New Variant Is Made Of Ruby Chocolate
Pink chocolate will go on sale in Japan and Korea
The mention of KitKat immediately brings to mind the image of brown elongated slabs of chocolate that comes in sets of twos and fours. But would you like to try out a pink chocolate KitKat? Well, ahead of Valentine’s Day this year, Nestle is hoping to bring in additional cheer with its new, pink variant. The new version of its KitKat bar is made out of the newly developed “ruby” chocolate. The only catch, you would have to travel quite far to taste it, as Nestle is launching the pink KitKat only in Japan and Korea. But if it is a success, then the company might launch it in other markets across the globe too. Interestingly, Nestle is the first confectionery giant in the world to commercialise the naturally pink chocolate, which was unveiled last year, reports The Sun.
Nestle will be launching the pink variant as a limited edition. This new variant will be on sale from January 19 in stores and online portals across Japan and Korea. The price for the pink KitKat is about USD 3.60 a bar, states The Sun. Additionally, Nestle is also launching a five-piece mix called Kitkat Chocolatory Sublime assortment, which will consist two ruby wafers for USD 16. The confectionery giant is aiming to sell the new variants as the ideal romantic gift to give to loved ones in the run up to Valentine’s Day, state news reports. It will be launched in other markets if it does well in these two markets. The Sun quotes a spokesperson for Nestle saying, “It will be exclusive to Japan for now but we will be keeping a close eye on how the launch goes and looking at options for other formats and other markets in the future.”

The Ruby chocolate was unveiled in China in September last year and is the first new type of chocolate since the white version was created in Switzerland in the 1930s. The new chocolate gets its name from its red hue and contains a special Ruby Cocoa bean. It tastes like berries, though no colour or extra berry extracts are added. Ruby chocolate joins the three existing types of chocolate – milk, white and dark, and is only the fourth form 0f chocolate ever created. Ruby chocolate was created by Swiss chocolate giant Barry Callebaut and launched to a panel of chocolate experts in Shanghai, China.
