If India and Pakistan have anything to talk about in common currently other than politics, then it is the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. From actors, politicians, and commoners, no one can just cannot keep quiet about the dramatic loss India suffered at the hands of Pakistan. Other than cricketing skills, English speaking abilities of cricketers were also a much talked about topic on Twitter. And among people supporting their countrymen is Pakistani actor Ali Zafar. Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed was trolled by social media users for not being to talk in correct English. Considering English as a yardstick on which intelligence is measured, the Pakistani cricketer was mocked at for asking if all reporters at a post-match press conference talked only English. While he was trolled on the internet, some also came to his support.
Former cricketer Virender Sehwag supported Sarfraz saying that his job is to play cricket which he is good at, and not talk in fluent English. Pakistani actor Hamza Ali Abbasi had also come in support of Sarfraz saying that a sportsman should be judged on the basis of his performance and not his speaking skills. And recently, congratulating the Pakistani team on their victory, Ali Zafar in a Facebook video said, “Agar gore hamaari tarah Urdu nahi bol sakte, to usi toarah hum unki jaise angrezi nahi bol sakte (Just like how the whites cannot speak Urdu fluently like us, we cannot speak English like them)”.
