People in Tanuku, a town in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh are still not over a wedding recent wedding. While theme based weddings are a trend, this family in Andhra Pradesh just pulled off the most unthinkable and is making headlines. It was a local godman Sridhar Swami’s daughter Harishita’s wedding on October 6 and the entire family dressed up as Hindu Gods. While the bridegroom was dressed up as Lord Vishnu, the bride as Goddess Lakshmi was carried to the stage in a makeshift Lotus. While the parents and the girl’s brothers were dressed as other Gods from Hindu mythology and now pictures and videos from the wedding are viral on social media.
They were dressed in traditional attire along with jewelry and huge golden headgears. Sridhara Swami is a godman who is popular in both the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He even has an ashram in Mukkamala near Tanuku. Sridhara Swami is a regular on TV channels also have a YouTube channel with his sermons. Talking about their costumes and the wedding, Sridhara Swami told The News Minute, “During the olden days, weddings used to happen in this manner only. We used to follow the ‘sanathana’ traditions. Weddings used to take place in a pious manner. To replicate the same and inculcate the same pious feeling, we conducted it this way.”
When asked about the unique theme for the wedding he said that in every marriage the bride is an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi while performing the kanyadhaanam. He said, “Everyone sees the bride as Lakshmi in their minds, but I followed the same sentiment both mentally and practically with jewelry and costumes.” He also told The News Minute, “It was not just happiness for us, but it was happiness for everyone who saw the wedding. We feel blessed. My daughter and son-in-law are extremely fortunate because of the good deeds in their previous life. I want everyone to bless my children. I will remember those who bless us and pray to god for them,” he said, talking about the reaction of those who watched the wedding.
