British Airways Arrests Man For Wearing Too Many Clothes to Avoid Paying Excess Baggage Fee
Ryan was denied a boarding pass after he did not meet the 'baggage allowance criteria'
A person can get arrested for a variety of reasons, including bribery, assault, robbery and murder. ‘Wearing too many clothes’ is not an option that would come to mind usually. However, this is exactly what happened to a man travelling from Iceland to England on a British Airways flight. He was arrested for wearing too many clothes – eight trousers and ten shirts to be precise. The passenger, Ryan Carney Williams, identifies as Ryan Hawaii. He reportedly wanted to avoid the excess luggage fee when he realised that all his clothes would not fit into his checked luggage. He, therefore, wore eight pairs of pants and ten shirts!
As a result, Ryan was denied a boarding pass after he did not meet the ‘baggage allowance criteria’. He then refused to leave the check-in desk and staff had to call a security guard over, state news reports. The airline, on its part, said that Ryan was acting rude so they turned him away. After the incident, Ryan took to Twitter to share his experience. He claimed that he was refused a boarding pass owing to “racial profiling”. He also posted a video along with the tweet, in which he can be heard asking the staff why he was not allowed to fly before two security guards approached him. One of the guards asks him if they need to call the police, to which Ryan responds by saying “Yeah, if needs be! I haven’t done anything wrong.” In another tweet, Ryan claims that he was “arrested and maced” as he refused to leave, although the airlines deny that pepper spray was used.
Here are Ryan’s tweets:
@British_Airways hi being held at Iceland Keflavik airport because I had no baggage put all the clothes on and they still won’t let me on. Racial profiling? Or….. pic.twitter.com/NKgpe1cPFP

Arrested and Maced, he tweeted:

He also shared a video of him with all the ‘extra clothes’:

The next day, Ryan states that he went back to the airport to get an EasyJet flight home. However, he claims that he was refused on board the flight at the gate even after he had checked in and gone through security. He blames the airline and states that he wasn’t allowed to board the flight because of the incident that had occurred the previous day. He again took to Twitter to share his angst. He tweeted: “And AGAIN! Refused from 2 flights in 2 days for no valid reason.” In the video embedded in the tweet, Ryan says, “Because I was disruptive yesterday apparently, I can’t board this flight again.” He then sent a direct message to EasyJet on Twitter and shared a screenshot of their response:
Not allowed to board the flight:

Ryan is a clothing designer and artist from Catford, South London, states an article in Daily Mirror. Later, Ruan claimed that EasyJet refunded him on the third attempt at leaving. The spokesperson for Bitish Airways told The Sun, “We give our customers a wide range of fares to choose from to meet their needs.” The spokesperson added their hand baggage only fares from Iceland are as low as £47 each way, and are designed for customers who are travelling without any hold baggage. Since customer’s plans can change, British Airways offers a facility to pay a fee at the airport for an extra bag. “We explained our policy to our customer, and arranged an alternative flight to London,” stated the spokesperson.
