It is common to hear people say, “He stole my heart” after the first date. But have you heard someone say “He stole my credit card and laptop”? Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened to a woman in New York. The woman had gone on a date with a man in Staten Island, New York. But instead of stealing her heart, the man stole her credit card and MacBook. The story doesn’t end here. He further went ahead and made several purchases at CVS, H&M and Au Bon Pain using her card!
The alleged thief and the 34-year-old woman went on a dinner date on November 19 at 2 am. At some point during the date, the man secretly took away her belongings – a credit card and laptop. The woman never realised when. It was only after she saw several unauthorised purchases made on her account that she realised what has happened.
It is currently not known how the duo was introduced to each other or where the couple met. But police is in search of the alleged thief. The man has been identified as Antonio Ruiz and has been described as a Hispanic. It is suspected that he is between 30 and 40 years old. The police have released a photo of the man and asked anyone with information related to this case to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
Well, we have heard of first dates going wrong, but this is taking things to an all new level. And this isn’t the first time when a man has been accused of trying to steal a woman’s belongings on the first date. In April this year, an Arizona man was arrested for allegedly stealing a woman’s purse during their first date and making off with her personal belongings before heading to a casino.
