The wait is finally over and the new episode of Game of Thrones is here! After the long wait, the much anticipated HBO’s Game of Thrones aired on on July 17, 2017, for viewers in India. For people who have already watched the episode it is known that Ed Sheeran surprised most of you with a cameo. And for those who did not know about it, your favorite ‘Shape Of You’ singer plays a soldier in Season 7 opening episode, Dragonstone directed by Jeremy Podeswa and shares screen space with Arya Stark. Ed plays a soldier from King’s Landing and is among a small group in the woods. He along with other soldiers sings a short folk song in the woods in front a bonfire.
The lyrics appear to be a George R R Martin’s book, the Song of Ice and Fire books which go “For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman’s hands are warm.” Attracted by the sound Arya Stark goes up to the soldier and compliments them. She also shares a meal, homemade wine and has short conversations with the group. Arya also informs the group of troops that she was on her way to King’s Landing to kill Queen Cersei. The song is from the original book and the lyrics read:
He rode through the streets of the city,
down from his hill on high, O’er the wynds and the steps and the cobbles,
he rode to a woman’s sigh.
For she was his secret treasure,
she was his shame and his bliss.
And a chain and a keep are nothing,
compared to a woman’s kiss
For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman’s hands are warm. . .
A surprised Twitterati having been buzzing since then with a mixed reaction. While most GoT fans appreciated Ed’s cameo some did not seem impressed. Here is how Twitter reacted:

In March news broke that GoT creators were planning to have the Grammy-winner on the show for Williams. They had also said that the panel has been trying for years to get the singer on board. Ed Sheeran has acted in the past too. In 2015, he had appeared in a five episode arc on FX’s The Bastard Executioner in a medieval drama series which also had Katey Sagal and Stephen Moyer.
