On April Fools’ day, the exuberant boss of Tesla Inc and SpaceX, Elon Musk took to Twitter to joke about his electric car-maker going bankrupt. The Tesla Inc has been rocked by bad news for several months. On Sunday, April 1 the CEO wrote “Despite intense efforts to raise money, including a last-ditch mass sale of Easter Eggs, we are sad to report that Tesla has gone completely and totally bankrupt. So bankrupt, you can’t believe it.”

Later, he posted a picture of himself pretending to be passed out with his head against Tesla Model 3 and he seems to be holding a sign that read “Bankwupt!” Soon the post gone viral his followers on Twitter started expressing their state of shock.

The manufacturer is heavily indebted and has not turned a profit since it began operating in 2003. And the prank came amidst reports of substantial risks ahead for the manufacturer.

On Saturday, Tesla confirmed that its “Autopilot” feature was engaged during the accident happened on March 23 in California. But according to Hindustan Times reports, they said that the driver ignored repeated visual and audio warnings and his hands were not detected on the wheel for six seconds prior to the vehicle’s collision with a highway barrier.

As per reports, a spokesman told The Washington Post “At this time the NTSB needs the assistance of Tesla to decode the data the vehicle recorded. In each of our investigations involving a Tesla vehicle, Tesla has been extremely cooperative in assisting with the vehicle data. However, the NTSB is unhappy with the release of investigative information by Tesla.” In 2016, the NTSB also investigated a crash involving an autopilot-equipped Tesla in Florida.
