We have to agree that most of us loved playing with our Barbie dolls and it was one of the favourite pastimes as kids. We already love the Mattel Barbie dolls and now we have one more reason. The latest figurine by Mattel is a barbie with Hijab. Yes, you have read that right. The doll has been modelled on none other than American fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad, who had won a bronze medal in Rio Olympics last year. She was the first US woman to wear the Islamic headscarf during the Olympics. The unique doll was unveiled at Glamour’s Women of the Year Live Summit by the sportswoman herself. She took to Twitter to reveal how it was like a childhood dream come true for her.
Here is the tweet:
The company has revealed that the dolls will be available online from next Autumn. The new doll is the part of ‘Shero’ line that pays tribute trailblazing women. Some dolls were inspired by gymnast Gabby Douglas and filmmaker Ava DuVernay in the past. Muhammad dons many hats. She is also a sports ambassador and also works on the US Department’s Empowering Women and Girls Through Sports Initiative as well. This is not all, she also runs a clothing firm called Louella. She is indeed a woman to reckon with. Twitterati, as usual, came up with mixed reactions on the same. Here are some twitter reactions:
Next gen is so lucky!

Some have touted it fake
Symbol of oppression?
Trump should have no issues with Barbie
It is really commendable that Barbie has come a long way since its debut in the 1950s. Earlier the barbies had blonde hair, super white skin and now we can buy barbie who has muscular thighs and wears hijab. What do you think about this new Barbie doll? Sound off your views in the comments below.
