Gulzar was born as Sampooran Singh Kalra on August 18, 1936. The lyricist started his career in 1963 with the movie Bandini and is still at it leading gracious lyrics to leading music directors such as A.R. Rahman, Vishal Bhardwaj and late R.D Burman.

Gulzar has been honoured time and again for his immaculate work, he has several awards and recognition titles like Padma Bhushan, Sahitya Akademi Award, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, national Film Awards, Academy Award and even Grammy Award to his credit. Although he writes poems primarily in Urdu and Punjabi, he has also penned in Hindi, Haryanvi, Marwari and Braj Bhasha.

Gulzar’s style of writing reflects very deep human sensibilities and entangled relations. His lyrical work is very sensitive and draws you into it. His profound work has been ever so intriguing and has an ability to engross the listener deeply into his work of art.

He also came up with a highly acclaimed television film Mirza Ghalib. The film starring Naseeruddin Shah revolved around Gulzar’s life. The serial played the role of a huge landmark in Indian Television.

He is considered as the most reputed personality music industry ever had; his songs are considered ever green and still have not lost its charm.
