Before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 started, everyone was apprehensive about the Indian one-day international (ODI) team’s chances of retaining the cup. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was too old, Virat Kohli was the only decent batsman and our bowlers just weren’t good enough. But since the cricket tournament started, they’ve been like a bunch of superheroes, conquering everything in front of them. In fact, here are their superhero avatars:
Mahendra Singh Dhoni – Superman
This one was a no-brainer as Captain Cool is our answer to the all-powerful Superman. No matter what the circumstances, you know Dhoni will be there for the team and pull one out of the hat.
Virat Kohli – Thor
A brat with almost God-like powers, Kohli might be arrogant, brash and rude, but he has a heart of gold and will destroy everything in his path! Niceties, be damned!
Rohit Sharma – Green Lantern
Like any ring-bearer of the Green Lantern corps, Rohit Sharma has the potential to do anything. The only catch is, at times he lacks the will!
Sir Ravindra Jadeja – Iron Man
People often point out that he has no super powers (can’t bat or bowl), but it really doesn’t matter because Sir Jadeja, like Tony Stark, just doesn’t give a fu@k about what you think.
Suresh Raina – Hawkeye
They both have immense reflexes and never miss the target. Also, while they might not be the main man, the team’s incomplete without them. (ALSO SEE: Why Birdman didn’t deserve to win an Oscar)
Ravichandran Ashwin – Groot
He might not say much or anything at all, but like Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy, he is very effective when it comes to getting the job done.
Shikhar Dhawan – Batman
While there are those who seek the limelight, there are others who are willing to do the dirty work without need for glory. He’s the hero India deserves!
Ajinkya Rahane – Star Lord
The first time people saw Ajinkya Rahane bat; their reaction was probably similar to the reaction of the audience when introduced to Peter Quill or Star Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy. But like Quill, he packs quite a punch.
Mohit Sharma – Aquaman
Not the most well-known or popular character in the bunch, Sharma still plays an important role. He keeps things simple and always executes the captain’s orders to perfection!
Mohammed Shami – Spider-Man
His rags-to-riches story is very similar to Spidey’s underdog story, and like the friendly neighbourhood Spiderman, he may be small but packs quite a punch!
Umesh Yadav – The Hulk
Our version of the incredible Hulk, Yadav will tear any batting line-up apart. Yadav see, Yadav smash.
