It is strange to see a morphed picture of former cricketer and Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan represented as Lord Shiva. The picture, which has gone viral, triggered outrage not only from the minority Hindus in the Muslim majority nation but the Pakistan Parliament also witnessed chaos over the issue.
According to the reports, the controversy has also acquired political colors after members of Khan’s PTI party accused supporters of rival Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) of circulating the offensive photograph on social media sites.
The Parliament in Pakistan was rocked by the uproar created over the photograph on Wednesday, with opposition party Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)’s member Ramesh Lal accusing the ruling party of hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindus, which he said was against the Constitution of the country.
Apparently, the photoshopped picture of the PTI chief was posted on a Facebook fan page. The title of the page was ‘We Love Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and PML(N)’ seems to be for the supporters of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and his party PML-N.
Several users in Pakistan took to Twitter to express their disapproval on the picture. They demanded strict action against the Facebook page.
As per the reports, the Parliament in Pakistan has ordered the Federal Investigation Agency to probe the matter. The Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has also ordered Home Minister Tallal Chaudry to submit a report in connection with the issue.
A Twitter user shared his views on the same. Take a look:
Imran Khan’s PTI has, however, maintained that the party is in support of the members of Hindu community in the country. According to Dawn News, PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi as saying that the campaign was being carried out by some party’s social media wing.
