Derek Anthony Redmond, born on September 3, 1965, is a British athlete who has retired now. He held records for 400 metres sprint and has won gold medals in the World Championships, European Championships and the Commonwealth Games.

The video shows Derek in good athletic form when he headed to the Olympics in Barcelona. During the opening round of the race, he starts well, but about 250 metres from the finish line he hobbles down to ground in utter pain due to a hamstring injury. Getting up, he keeps running although in pain.

In an instant, his father Him Redmond joins him on the race track and supports him to complete it.

Derek leans on to his father to get support and finish the lap together, as spectators give a standing ovation to the father-son duo.

Derek’s heroic perseverance, set to the music of Josh Groban’s You raise me up with lyrics that go You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas I am strong, when I am on your shoulders You raise me up… To more than I can be,  is an ultimate tear-jerker inspirational video to date.

This video instills a faith in our own strength and tells us to never ever give up! No matter what barriers may come in our way, your persistent spirit will pay off.
