Kings XI Punjab_IPL 2014

We will witness the finals of the 7th edition of the IPL and it won’t be an overstatement to say that 2 of the best teams in the tournament will face each other in the finals. A team does not make it to this stage of a tournament without making impact and playing some exciting matches and delivering even more exciting performances. Kings XI Punjab has been the most consistent and the most exciting team of the current edition of the IPL and it will be a huge challenge for anyone to pick only a few of these epic moments but we gave a try anyways.

1. All’s well that’s Maxwell: Kings XI started the very first match of the season chasing no less than 206 runs for the win and seemed that it might be the same story as it has been for the past few years fr them, but then the team had new players and a new way of thinking in their camp. But more than anything else they had Glenn Maxwell in their team, someone who just doesn’t care about who is bowling to them and will just kill a bowling attack if he is in the mood. Glenn Maxwell played no less than 4 exhilarating Innings in the current edition of the IPL and has made a great fan following for him with his relentless hitting of the Cricket ball.

2. The smiling Assassin; George Bailey: If getting murdered by Maxwell wasn’t enough in the return match against the Kings for the Super Kings, George Bailey decided to go terminator mode on the Chennai bowlers and score a quick fire 40. 40 of just 13 deliveries as the Kings posted 230, the highest score of the Season.

3. Killer Miller taking up the Royal Challenge: The Royal Challengers Bangalore thought that they have had the Kings surrendered cheaply when they had the likes of Sehwag, Bailey and Maxwell in the hut but they had forgotten the man who had made them suffer the previous edition with a scintillating 100 of just 38 deliveries. David Miller scored 68 runs of just 29 deliveries as it was Déjà vu for the RCB bowlers and Virat Kohli all over again.

4. Sandeep’s destructive opening spells and Manan Vohra supreme talent: Sandeep Sharma proved to be the X Factor in the Punjab bowling attack as he kept on picking up wickets at regular interval during the initial stages of the tournament.  The Most memorable of these will be his over when he picked up the wickets of both Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli, breaking the backbone of the already struggling RCB batting lineup.

People were questioning the decision of the unknown Manan Vohra being retained n the squad at the start of the season and then not being played for the opening 8 games or so: But as soon as the youngster got a chance, Manan scored a scintillating 47 of just 23 deliveries against the Sunrisers and that included 2 great pulls off the bowling of Dale Steyn, who tried his best to intimidate the youngster with his Short ball bowling. Manan since then has been consistently providing the Kings XI with good starts with consistent scores n the 30’s and 40’s.

5. And then it’s the Sehwag show: You cannot exclude Virendra Sehwag from the discussion of destructive batting if he is there in the team. Right from the start of the tournament he was getting the starts and was providing the Kings XI with good initial momentum that was taken care of by the Middle order batsmen. But come the big stage and the big man delivers his best performance, scoring a mammoth 122 of just 58 deliveries making sure that his team post’s a total of 226 runs against the Super Kings in the qualifier 2 of the tournament.
