The political parties in India have been trying to put down the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, ever since he came to power in General Elections held in May 2014. The political banter has hit a new low as Trinamool Congress MP; Kalyan Banerjee addressed PM Modi as “son of a rat” in a protest rally. The TMC leader who aids Mamta Banerjee was addressing a protest rally in Kolkata. The MP took this low dig, at the protest rally where he was criticising the currency demonetisation move by Narendra Modi. The protest was held at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regional headquarters in Kolkata.
Kalyan Banerjee said, “Modi’s supporters call him a lion. But I say time is not far when Modi will have to return to his hole in Gujarat like a son of a rat.” This statement is seen in a video shared by India Today and has brought shame to many. The TMC MP also took a dig at other BJP leaders like Kailash Vijayvarghia and Rahul Sinha and openly challenged them.
The Trinamool Congress has been on a dharna outside the RBI regional office in Kolkata. The protest has been taking a harsh turn and the language used been demeaning. Things took a turn for the worse when two TMC MPs, Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Tapas Pal, were arrested by the CBI in connection with the Rose Valley Ponzi Scam case.
The BJP has launched a complaint against this derogatory language that was used by the MP and telecasted on national television. While the main agenda of the protest was to voice the mismanagement and problems caused by demonetisation, the MPs have been showing their anger on the recent arrests at the protest.
