Leander Adrian Paes was born on June 17, 1973. He has a sports streak from the very beginning since his parents, father Vece Paes and mother Jennifer Paes, were sportspersons. His father was a midfielder in the Olympic bronze medal-winning Indian field hockey team and his mother was the Indian basketball team’s captain.

Leander Paes is considered one of the greatest and most respected professional contemporary doubles and mixed doubles tennis players in the world. He has received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, the Arjuna Award and the Padma Shri for his contribution to the sport. He is also the ambassador of sports for the Indian state of Haryana.

Leander, or Lee, is known to have maintained a successful doubles partnership with player Mahesh Bhupathi. After their winning streak, both were nicknamed the ‘Indian Express’. The pair has a long career record together; they have a higher rate of success when paired together. Lee and Hesh have the longest winning streak record in Davis Cup doubles with 23 straight victories.
