Abusive relationships have been a matter of growing concern all over the world, and especially in India. In a country where relationships are categorised and talked about on a daily basis, and when young love is often looked down upon, coming out against an abusive relationship has been a huge problem. However, three young buds have come up with a solution that is quite easy to access and also maintains confidentiality.

RajshekharPatil, Avani Parekh and Nida Sheriff have come together to provide a platform for people to seek help against their abusers and provides help and counselling for the victims. The idea was conceived by advertising creative Rajshekhar Patil who was then joined in by Avani Parekh who runs the anonymous digital counselling website Lovedoctor.in and Nida Sheriff who runs the Indian arm of Chayn, a website for women suffering from domestic abuse. The trio chose their media of contact to be Snapchat and came out with the account @lovedoctordotin which receives the complaints in the form of snaps that cannot be backtracked or saved and hence gains the confidence of the scared victims.

The three young minds chose Snapchat due to easy and increasing access as well as its promise of confidentiality, which made it popular in the first place. The Lovedoctordotin account is easily accessible to the public and keeps posting images about the various aspects and problems in relations and stories of domestic abuse. They also respond to questions on abuse and provide proper counselling to those in need.

We salute this innovative idea and hope that such accounts and portals keep developing in the hope of improving our society!
