Oscar Awards 2017 winners list and LIVE Twitter Updates: La La Land wins 6 Academy Awards! Emma Stone, Casey Affleck win Best Actor & Actress, Moonlight is Best Picture
La La Land won six trophies at the Oscar Awards 2017, including Best Actress for Emma Stone. Casey Affleck won Best Actor, Mahershala Ali the Best Supporting Actor and Viola Davis, the Best Supporting Actress. Priyanka Chopra owned the Oscars 2017 red carpet with a Ralph and Russo gown.
The much awaited annual night in the world of entertainment is here, the Oscars! Update: The Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role goes to Emma Stone for La La Land, the film’s sixth Oscar Award! The Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role goes to Casey Affleck for Manchester By the Sea. The first Oscar Awards 2017 winner announced was Mahershala Ali – Best Supporting Actor – for his film Moonlight! The black actor beat Dev Patel who was nominated for Lion. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them wins the 2017 Oscar Award for Best Costume Design (Colleen Atwood), while the Oscar Award 2017 for the Best Makeup goes to Alessandro Bertolazzi, Giorgio Gregorini and Christopher Nelson for the movie Suicide Squad. Viola Davis wins the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Fences. Asghar Farhadi wins the Best Foreign Language Film for The Salesman. The director refused to grace the Oscar Awards 2017 ceremony, opposing US President Donald Trump’s move to ban citizens of certain Islamic countries from entering the country. Asghar Farhadi has earlier won an Academy Award in the same category, Best Foreign Language Film, for A Separation in 2012. He sent a note on why he couldn’t make it at the Oscar Awards 2017, highlighting that he is supporting his country Iran against Donald Trump’s policy of banning immigrants.
Just in: La La Land wins the Oscar Award 2017 for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Emma Stone and the Best Director for Damien Chazelle! La La Land also won Best Production Design, the movie’s first Academy Award after 14 nominations. La La Land‘s second Oscar Award came for Best Cinematography, the third for Best Original Score and the fourth for Best Original Song for City of Stars. The fifth one is Best Director, by far for the first such award for the youngest director Damien Chazelle, who is 32, and the sixth one is Best Actress in a Leading Role for Emma Stone. La La Land‘s seventh Oscar Award was announced was for Best Picture, but that was a big mistake! Apparently, the right envelope wasn’t handed over to presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway for the announcement of Best Picture. They were holding the red envelope from the earlier award, the Best Actress in a Leading Role that went to Emma Stone for La La Land. (This was later denied by Emma Stone, who was saying that her envelope was with her.) The Best Picture winner at the 89th Academy Awards was Moonlight. So, in effect, La La Land has won six Oscars only, and the team had to step down from the Oscars 2017 stage after accepting the award and giving their speech! Really weird end to the 89th Academy Awards ceremony, but as they say, it (or sh**) happens!

Zootopia wins Best Animated Feature Film at the Oscars 2017 and The Jungle Book for Best Visual Effects. Hacksaw Ridge wins the Academy Award 2017 for Best Editing, while Manchester By the Sea got the Oscar Award for Best Original Screenplay. Moonlight was honoured for the Best Adapted Screenplay. It’s a cute moment when Jimmy Kimmel lifts little Sunny Pawar in his hands to a scene from the classic animation film The Lion King! See the Twitter updates below for all the Oscar Awards 2017 winners.
At 5.30 am IST, the red carpet of the 89th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscar Awards 2017, was rolled out at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles for the biggest and best movie stars in the world and especially Hollywood! The Oscar Awards 2017 ceremony began after 6 am IST, with host Jimmy Kimmel! He straight up went after actor Matt Damon and plays on their fake fight! But not before giving some tips on how if we reach out to people we disagree with, we can “Make America great again”, which could be a dig at US President Donald Trump. He also took a jibe at President Trump, talking about Oscars being “racist” and how they don’t have any tolerance for “fake news”. Through the Oscar Awards 2017 ceremony, Jimmy Kimmel kept taking a swipe at Donald Trump, sometimes tweeting live to him, and sometimes using his quotes in his speech to bring in that humour – like the “Last night in Sweden” quote of Trump that was based on zero facts; nothing happened in Sweden!
Our desi girl Priyanka Chopra walked the red carpet of the Oscars 2017, in her second appearance at the prestigious awards show since Oscar Awards 2016. Priyanka Chopra chose to wear light colours this year, too, and owned the Oscars red carpet with a silver Ralph and Russo gown and diamond earrings. She was seen with her Baywatch co-star Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock. Oscar 2017 Best Actor nominees Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Charlize Theron and Denzel Washington have also walked the red carpet, so have singer-actor Justin Timberlake and his wife Jessica Biel. Emma Stone, Jessica Biel and some others have worn gold at the Oscars 2017, making it by far the favourite colour on the red carpet.
But Baywatch girl Priyanka Chopra chose to wear silver, while Meryl Streep went in for a blue Elie Saab after designer Karl Lagerfeld accused her asking for money to wear his creation at the Oscar Awards 2017 red carpet. Lion actress Nicole Kidman is resplendent on the red carpet, seen with Keith Urban! Her Lion co-stars, Indian-origin actors Dev Patel and Sunny Pawar also impressed on the Oscars 2017 red carpet in their dapper look, with Sunny Pawar doing a cute turn in a black tuxedo and Dev Patel in a white tux! And Emma Stone will take your breath away with her elegant look – she did not go loud at all, even though she is a Best Actress nominee for this year’s blockbuster La La Land, which has 14 nominations at the Oscars 2017. Update: Emma Stone won the Oscar Award 2017 for Best Actress in Leading Role for La La Land.
Justin Timberlake opened the Oscar Awards 2017 ceremony with his performance, while veteran Sting, a nominee for Best Original Song, performed The Empty Chair. John Legend sang a medley of the songs from La La Land. See the LIVE Updates of the Oscar Awards 2017 winner, red carpet and moments!
