A five-year-old from New South Wales in Australia who got her periods at the age of four will soon be going through menopause. Within 12 months of menstruating, she started developing natural bodily behaviors like older women. Emily Dover who started menstruating at the age of four has also grown pubic hair and breast. The girl is suffering from Addison’s Disease and is undergoing aggressive treatment due to which she will now go through menopause. According to Emily’s mother, her daughter never got a chance to be a little girl and is bullied at her playschool for her size. The girl is still learning to use sanitary towels and tells her parents her ‘foo foo is bleeding’.
At four months old Emily was the size one-year-old and by two years old and had developed breast buds, cystic acne, and body odor. She was detected with Addison’s disease this summer after years of tests. The disorder means her adrenal glands do not produce enough steroid hormones. She also has central precocious puberty which starts early in children. It can also cause congenital adrenal hyperplasia, autism, sensory processing disorder, and anxiety. Emily daily wakes up with swollen wrists and ankles, itchy breasts and also has painful bone growth issues.

Emily’s mother told Daily Mail that the girl knows she is different from the rest of children of her age and is conscious about her body. Emily will soon begin a course of monthly injections that will force her body into a very premature menopause which comes with side effects. Her parents will have to pay around Rs 95,000 per shot as the working parents are not entitled to healthcare. They also do not have any paid leave left as Emily frequently falls ill. The couple is now hoping to raise money to fund Emily’s vital treatment. You can donate to Emily’s treatment here.
