It is often said, ‘They Came, They Saw, They Conquered’. But in Malayalam actress Priya Prakash Varrier’s case, it should be ‘She Came, She Winked, She Conquered’! With a short-clip of the song from her upcoming movie Oru Adaar Love, Priya conquered the hearts of millions of Indians. Aptly released around Valentine’s Dy, the scene from the song shows romance brewing between two high-school students. Priya and her co-actor Roshan Abdul Rahoof steal glances, raise eyebrows and wink playfully at each other, and with it, Priya became the nation’s latest internet sensation. She not only trended on Twitter, but also dethroned Sunny Leone to become the most searched person on Google in the past few days. She even surpassed the search numbers of Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. And now, adding another feather to her cap, Priya has created a record of sorts on Instagram by hitting 2.9 million followers and becoming the third highest gainer in terms of followers in a just single day.
This means Priya gained over one million followers in a single day. With this, she has a verified Instagram profile. What’s more, she has surpassed Bollywood A-Lister Ranbir Kapoor in terms of follower numbers. Ranbir has 461k followers while Priya has 2.9 million followers, and the count just keeps increasing. Not just this, Priya has also surpassed the Instagram followers of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, who has 718k followers. Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan, with 1.9 million followers, is behind Priya too. Dulquer is set to make his Bollywood debut this year too, with the film Karwaan. But Oru Adaar Love seems to be the only thing on people’s mind for now. Priya has also crossed Anushka Shetty, whose Telugu film Bhaagamathie is doing very well at the box-office. Anushka has about 2 million followers. Even Mika Singh and Badshah have fewer followers than Priya, and we are sure the list of celebrities Priya has surpassed in terms of followers is much longer!

The makers of the film have started cashing in on the frenzy around the 18-year-old debutant. Her film is set to release in June, and Priya stated in an interview that she is yet to sign any other film. .”Didn’t expect it to go viral and reach the international audience. The fame is too much for me to handle. All this is surreal, I am still trying to cope with it, trying to consume it,” Varrier told WION. She also thanked the makers of the film and said that she hopes the audience continues to support her when the movie releases. On the other hand, a news portal reported that Priya’s family is not too happy with the frenzy around her and are yet to come to terms with all the noise.
