Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s dream project ‘Padmavati’ seems as if it can never get rid of controversies. Since the start of the shooting, the movie has been mired in controversy and targeted by religious groups. Ranveer Singh who is playing Allauddin Khilji in the film was also recently in the news when it was revealed that he had to resort to medical treatment and therapy sessions to get over the character of the ruler. Now, once again Padmavati has found itself in a controversy. Ranveer Singh tweeted out a photo with the caption, “Losing my religion!” which has been the target of many unsavory tweets from Twitterati. Most people took offense with the choice of his caption and were not amused and Ranveer Singh received flak for it. However, it might be a reference to the American alternative rock band REM’s song — Losing My Religion from the album Out of Time or simply that he cut his long hair and beard after finishing the schedule for the film Padmavati. Many people even went on to compare Ranveer Singh’s new look to that of Sonu Nigam and said that the actor actually looks like the playback singer in the picture.

Ranveer Singh’s Tweet

Usually, when someone uses the term ‘Losing My Religion’ it means that the person was extremely angry and was about to fly off the handle. It does not have anything to do with religion, despite the common misinterpretation of the phrase. Similarly, our over-zealous Twitterati took the wrong meaning and trolled Ranveer Singh to death. Sample a few tweets below.

Honesty is better than trolling

Thanks for the explanation

Jumping to conclusions

Reading between the lines

Oh the religious rant

Too much of Khilji is not a good thing

Some Twitter users realized that Ranveer Singh now looks like Sonu Nigam.

The resemblance is uncanny

Hard to differentiate

They do look similar

The side profile is bang on

Sonu Nigam Biopic in the making?

It took only a picture of Ranveer Singh and three words by the actor to create a furore on Twitter with people giving their own two cents on his caption. Isn’t it high time that we do away with this troll business and look for positivity in things rather than spreading negativity all around? Padmavati also stars Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles.
