Salman Khan was convicted by the Jodhpur court on Thursday in the 1998 Blackbuck poaching case. He was sentenced to five years in prison and Rs 10,000 penalty after being declared guilty of killing two Blackbucks in September 1998. The other accused in the case, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam, and Tabu were acquitted in the court, by judges giving them the “benefit of doubt.” Salman was charged under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act and others under Section 51 read with Section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code.
Today, Salman Khan’s lawyer presented the bail plea in front of the court but judges reserved the hearing on his bail till Saturday. The court heard the arguments on the suspension of the sentence and bail application before deferring the bail plea till tomorrow.
Bollywood actor Salman has been lodged in ward number 2 and given number 106. He has to spend another night in Jodhpur jail today. The Jodhpur Central Jail also houses rape-accused Asaram Bapu, Bhanwari Devi murder accused Malkhan Singh Vishnoi and Shambhu Lal Regar, arrested for killing a Muslim and blatantly filming the act.
