Saudi Arabia Woman’s Video in Short Skirt Goes Viral, Arrested for ‘Indecent’ Clothing
The issue sparked over a series of videos the woman posted on Snapchat at the Ushaqir heritage village.
The Saudi Police on Tuesday arrested a woman who was seen touring one of the heritage sites dressed in clothes against the country’s law. The woman became the centre of controversy for walking around in a crop top and skirt. The issue started over a series of videos she posted on Snapchat at the Ushaqir heritage village. The place is situated in the conservation province of Najd which is located 160 km north of the capital city, Riyadh. Saudi Arabian state TV on Twitter said that the woman had been taken into police custody and that the case had been referred to the general prosecutor. The general directorate of public security said that the woman is being questioned and investigations are underway.
The woman identified as Khulood was seen walking on the heritage site dressed in a short skirt, a crop top, sunglasses and her head uncovered, against the country’s laws. While the outfit may seem like normal to many, it goes against Saudi Arabia’s dress code for women. As per the law, women are required to wear headscarves and abayas (long robes) while going out in public. They are also expected to cover their face with a black veil however it does not apply to woman dignitaries visiting the place. There’s an arrest warrant. I refrain from commenting, because of course, this is all very logical.
