Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been convicted in two rape cases and has been sentenced to 20 years in jail. Ever since this conviction, several shocking revelations from the inside of Dera Sacha Sauda camps have reached the media, and the most recent of them has to be the incredibly high prices at which the self-styled godman sold vegetables inside the Dera. According to several reports, Ram Rahim sold a single tomato at Rs 1000, 100 grams of Jaggery at Rs 1.25 lakhs and priced all the other basic vegetables in a ridiculous way possible. The most jarring part of this story was that these super-expensive vegetables were not forced on the followers or Premise. People whole heartedly spent their hard earned money (we hope) on these ridiculously high-priced vegetables and food products. The Dera site had a huge farm where these vegetables were made and Ram Rahim decided the prices of the vegetables, fruits and other products based on their size. 5 grams of peas were sold Rs 1000 while a single green chilli was marked at Rs 1000. According to a Daily Post report, the Dera vegetable market sold these vegetables and fruits in the name of God’s prasad and the Dera in Sirsa was also called the world’s most expensive vegetable market. The 700 acres camp housed various fruits and vegetables, and a single papaya was sold at Rs 5000 and priced the brinjal or eggplant as per its size. The devotees of Gurmeet Ram Rahim believed that they would remain healthy only if they ate the vegetable that was personally grown by the Baba. Here is a list of various food products and how much they cost at the Dera.
|Jaggery||100 gms||1.25 lakhs|
|Brinjal||1||1000 – 2000 (based on size)|
|Capsicum||1||500 – 2000|
The fact that millions of followers blindly believed Ram Rahim to such an extent that they were blinded from the high pricing and played a crucial role in making him a billionaire is absolutely astounding to many. If this was not enough, a Nai Duniya post also revealed that the followers of Ram Rahim were so crazy about owning things that once belonged to the baba that they paid Rs 2 lakhs for his old used bike and Rs 80000 for a used chair. The things that have been happening inside the Dera campus is leaving people shook and as the courts have ordered “sanitisation” of the campus. The police and parliamentary forces will soon be entering the Dera to get a clearer picture of the world of Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
