Sonam Kapoor trolled for not knowing National Anthem, after her column blasting Internet trolls

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was speaking at JNU and was answering a question put forth a student. The student wanted to know how he should deal with ill-treatment by his friends and family over his sexual orientation. To this, Sri Sri said that being homosexual is a just “tendency” that “may change” later. Sri Sri said, “This is your tendency now. Just acknowledge it and accept it, and know that this tendency is not a permanent thing. It may change. I’ve seen many men who were gay, later on turn into heterosexuals, and there are those who are normal — what are called straight people — end up being gay later in life.”

This statement angered the Bollywood fashion icon Sonam, who said that ‘Homosexuality is not a ‘tendency’ it’s something you are born as and is absolutely NORMAL. To tell someone you can change is irresponsible.’ In another tweet, she said ‘WTF is wrong with godmen, if you want to learn something about Hinduism and culture it’s better to follow @HindolSengupta & @devduttmyth. In this tweet, she has tagged Fortune India editor-at-large Hindol Sengupta and mythologist and author Devdutt Pattanaik. She also gave thumbs down to the program. Later, Sonam also modified the tweets and posted them on her Instagram account.

Her views, however, did not go down well with the netizens, who pointed out that she has misunderstood Sri Sri’s response. Some also pointed out that she has read or heard only a part of his response, and is unaware of Sri Sri’s complete views on homosexuality. Here is how the Twitterati responded to Sonam’s series of tweets:

This is not the first time that Sonam Kapoor has been trolled online for her views. In the past, Sonam has been mocked for using the word ‘misogynistic’ in the wrong context, not knowing the national anthem and sometimes for her outfits. The actress has also had several spats on the micro-blogging site Twitter with Abhay Deol, Shobha De, to name a few. So what are your views on Sri Sri’s comments and Sonam’s tweets?
