Locations play a major part in setting up the background of any movie. And as we talk about the exotic locations, the first places to cross our mind would be the beautiful valley of Kashmir shown in Dil Se, or the snow kissed Swiss Alps in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, or the exclusive shots of Vicky Cristina Barcelona in Barcelona. So as we watch this movie, there is burning desire to get our backpack and leave for an extended vacation to these scenic landscapes, be it in our dream or for real. Movies are a great way to inspire and motivate the travel bugs to explore the farthest corners of the landscape.
Let us take a look at some of the greatest movies which were not only visual treats but also makes us desire to visit them.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
The Bollywood flick sees actors Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol embark on an all-boys trip to the Mediterranean country to have some fun. The location in and around Spain leaves you quite amused.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
The movie is a rollercoaster ride between Kongdori in Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Srinagar; shot in picturesque Kashmir. Then it shifts to Paris’ Rue Mouffetard and Eiffel Tower. It also gives a tinge of the royal city of Udaipur- the busy markets, the glistening Oberoi Udaivilas.
Into the Wild
An epic biographical drama directed by Sean Penn, this movie revolves around the ideology that ‘The core of man’s spirit comes from new experiences’. The film is a narration of the protagonist’s journey to the Alaskan wilderness. It is an adaptation of a book by the same name.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona
It is a Woody Allen’s romantic drama. The movie takes you from the exotic locations of Barcelona to Spanish Countryside and parts of some beautiful European city. The movie depicts how travel can open one to new experiences.
Dil Chahta hai
It all started with this movie! Dil Chahta Hai made the concept of road trips very cool among the youth. The traffic on NH 17 (Mumbai-Goa Highway) had noticeably increased after the movie released in 2001.
Lost in Translation
The movie was awarded with three Golden Globes, and nominated for four Oscars .The film follows the unlikely, increasingly intimate friendship between two Americans stuck in Tokyo. The feeling of being new to a country with bare minimum understanding and not knowing anything was captured in an exceptionable way.
A Good Year
It is a British romantic-comedy starring Russell Crowe, Marion Cotillard in the lead role. It reveals the stress-free lifestyle in the French countryside. It makes a strong point about the fact that there is much more to life than money, in addition to lure you to visit the South of France.
Eat Pray Love
Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything across Italy, India and Indonesia .Julia Roberts travels to different places to add meaning to her existence only to tempt us with the views of the amusing Roman architecture and the sumptuous food of Italy.
Letters to Juliet
The movie starring Amanda Seyfried is mainly filmed in Florence, Italy. From Verona to Siena, the film brings to life beautiful Tuscany with its ancient villas and quaint old towns of the region. The soundtrack of this movie is refreshing.
Sex and the City 2
The colourful locations of Abu Dhabi will make you fall in love with the souks and the dessert safari. Also the local markets are shown in an attractive yet mystical way. The fashionable foursome enjoys an extravagant all-expense-paid trip that would make you green with envy.
This movie depicted the true essence of Ladakh in a very impactful way. The clear waters of the Pangong Tso Lake, the striking mountains in the backdrop were too irresistible inspire of the fact that it had a very limited scope of capturing the place.
