The Indian theater, television and film industry on Thursday received a major shock on the sudden demise of veteran actress Reema Lagoo. While most of the actors paid respect to one of Bollywood’s favorite on-screen mother, Amul took paid tribute in their typical way. They paid respect to Bollywood’s Reema Lagoo with a picture of her essaying different roles with the title ‘Hum aap hai forever’. The ad rightly portrays the sentiments of her fans and followers. The ad shows Lagoo in some of her most popular characters from the hit comedy TV show Tu Tu Main Main to her role as Madhuri Dixit’s mother’s role in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. It also shows her character in Vaastav which received a Filmfare award for Best Supporting role.
Reema died following a cardiac arrest on Thursday morning at the age of 59. She breathed her last at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Reema’s death shocked colleagues as she was in action until Wednesday night on the set of TV show ‘Naamkaran’, in which she played antagonist Dayawanti. Reema divorced from her husband and actor Vivek Lagoo and is survived by her daughter 35-year-old Mrunmayee Lagoo who is also a film and stage actress and theater director. Her funeral in Oshiwara was attended by her colleagues from Hindi and Marathi film industry, theater and television industries. Her daughter Mrunmayee was accompanied by her husband Vinay Vayakul who lit the funeral pyre. Bollywood personalities Rishi Kapoor, Kajol, Tanvi Azmi, Shreyas Talpade, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Sonali Kulkarni, Vijay Gokhale, Ramesh Bhatkar and Ashoke Pandit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, among other politicians, paid tribute to the actress. While Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Mahesh Bhatt, Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, Renuka Shahane, Ashutosh Gowariker, Rishi Kapoor and Dia Mirza took to Twitter to share condolences.
