Award-winning Bollywood singer Udit Narayan was born on December 1, 1955, as Udit Narayan Jha in Nepal. He is one of the most popular and revered playback singers in India. He has been honoured with three National Film Awards and several Filmfare Awards for his music. In 2001, he was awarded the Prabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu by the late King of Nepal Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev. Udit Narayan was also honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2009. He began his career by singing in almost all Indian languages and after eight years of his hard work, the Indian embassy gave him the prestigious chance of studying classical music. Udit Narayan was given two prestigious awards in 2004, Record of the Year and Album of the Year. ‘Taal Se Taal Mila’ song from the Aishwarya Rai Bachchan movie Taal was voted as best song of the century. It was composed by A R Rahman.
Udit Narayan received his first Bollywood break in the year 1980 by music director Rajesh Roshan for the movie Unees Bees. This gave him the opportunity to sing along with veteran singer Mohammed Rafi. In 1988, he got the opportunity to sing for the Aamir Khan-Juhi Chawla film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, which established him as top singer in Bollywood. Udit Narayan has sung more than 25,000 songs in more than 34 languages.
