Bhopal, Oct 13: The Madhya Pradesh government has suspended the principal of a government college who invited Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia to a National Service Scheme (NSS) event for violating the civil services rules. Dr BL Ahirwar, who took over the charges Government Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi College two years ago, had written to Scindia in September. Scindia was invited to address the event.
In Madhya Pradesh government’s order dated October 11, 2017, his suspension was attributed to “holding of NSS programme under a banner bearing ‘politics party’, assembly of ‘politics party’ workers, putting up banner of ‘politics party’ on the degree college premises, giving advice to lure students with money to vote for any ‘politics party’ and conducting activities to vitiate educational atmosphere while getting involved in party politics,” Hindustan Times reported.
The order also stated that there were party symbols at the NSS event and the students were lured with money to vote for a political party.
Talking to The Indian Express, Ahirwar said that he had invited Scindia to the college event, not the Congress party members. “I have been made a scapegoat. Sometimes you are accused of not inviting people’s representatives to educational institutions. When you do, you are suspended without giving an opportunity to explain,” he added.
Taking to Twitter, Scindia criticised the MP government asking if inviting the local MP to a college in his constituency amounts to the suspension of the principal. He also said that the principal’s suspension has exposed the anti-Dalit mindset of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
