Congress can expect better show in the Lok Sabha elections 2014 if it declares its vice president Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate. According to pre-poll Lok Sabha survey conducted by TALEEM Research Foundation for Zee Media, nearly 34 per cent respondents believe Rahul Gandhi’s candidacy can improve the prospects of the grand old party of India.

Gandhi and his party have so far refused to declare its PM candidate citing parliamentary democracy as an excuse. Gandhi has however taken up prominent role in leading the party and is a key campaigner. Since his mother’s illness and his appointment as party vice president, the Nehru-Gandhi family scion has been taking active participation in party affairs and is seen as the person who pushed through the Lokpal bill.
