New Delhi, Apr 15: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led NDA could well be able to form the next government if the latest NDTV opinion poll is something to go by. The poll shows BJP and its allies getting 275 seats in the nine-phase polls.

The poll says BJP led by prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will get 226 seats which will be party’s best performance. The alliances that the saffron party has managed before the polls like with the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh seems to have given the party a big boost. (Read more poll survey stories here)

The ruling Congress will post its worst performance managing just 92 seats, says the NDTV opinion poll. Even the alliances do not help the party much – adding just 19 more seats to end with 111 seats. The lowest seats party managed was 114 in 1999 Lok Sabha elections.

The poll result have come out just before the crucial fifth phase of elections which will see 121 Lok Sabha seats going to polls.

BJP’s position has shown remarkable improvement since the opinion polls were first conducted in February. In the first poll BJP was projected to get 196 seats while NDA was tipped to get 230 which improved to 214 for the BJP and 259 for NDA. If the party fails to get the seats projected in the poll it will have to take support of other smaller regional parties like J Jayalalithaa or Mamata Banerjee.

The final picture will be clear on May 16 when the counting will be taken up.
