The obsession of  the Pawar family to retain power came to light when deputy CM of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar on the eve of polls, threatened the people of Baramati that he will block water supply for the village if they did not vote for his cousin Supriya Sule. Pawar was addressing a gathering in Masalwadi village as has been cited in a complaint filed by Suresh Khopde, a former IPS officer and AAP candidate from Baramati.

However, no complaint has been registered yet. While UPA leaders are accusing Modi for having a dictatorial attitude, this kind of a statement by a senior leader of their alliance gives a clear indication that they too are not untouched with the kind of politics their counterparts are allegedly playing.

Supriya Sule, daughter of NCP chief and Union Agriculture minister is contesting from Baramati constituency and is seeking a re-election. Baramati is a drought prone area and such kind of threats by the Deputy Chief Minister hours before polling has sparked a controversy.

There have been nationwide reactions to his controversial tactics to get votes in favour of his sister. Social media too saw a fray of criticism for the Pawar family.

It has been reported that Pawar was addressing the complaints of the assembled villagers regarding inadequate water supply. Despite of continuous efforts, no reaction has come from the senior INC leaders. The opponents have condemned such kind of a statement and have demanded an immediate intervention by the poll panel.

Ajit Pawar has been in controversy quite a few times for his statements over the issue of water. Now he has just added another story to it. For NCP it seems to be a family affair as Sharad Pawar is the party chief, his daughter is the incumbent MP and nephew Ajit Pawar is the Deputy CM of Maharashtra. So, an action against him within the party is just a remote possibility but what authorities have to say on this will be something to watch for.
