After a humiliating 7-1 defeat against Germany in the semi-final hosts Brazil will have nothing but pride to play for, when they take on another semi’s loser Netherlands in the third place play-off match. What made Brazil’s exit worse was they did not go down fighting and faced a historic defeat against Germany. Captain Thiago Silva who missed that game will be back after the suspension for this fixture.

Netherlands were impressive throughout the tournament, but in their game against Costa Rica things started to wobble and eventually were eliminated by Argentina in the semi-final. As both these teams look to end their World Cup 2014 campaign on a winning note, here we are with pre-match dose of facts.

 1)     This not the first time Brazil find themselves competing in the third place play-off game, prior to this game they have played three third place play-off matches winning two of them and losing one.

 2)     Brazil have scored and conceded 11 goals so far in this tournament. Going by their past record they have never conceded more than 11 goals at a World Cup.

 3)     Brazil has managed 76 shots on target so far, the most in World Cup 2014 than any other nation.

 4)     Defender Maxwell for Brazil and Dutch goalkeeper Michel Vorm are the only players from their respective sides yet to make an appearance at this World Cup.

 5)     This will be Netherlands’ second third place play-off outing. They have lost the previous one to Croatia 2-1 in 1998.

 6)     In group stage matches Netherlands scored 11 goals but in knock-out stages they have managed to net only two goals, those came against Mexico in the Round of 16’s win.

 7)     The Netherlands’ have scored 10 of their 12 goals in this tournament after half-time and with last four of those goals coming in after the 75th minute.

 8)     The last time Brazil defeated Netherlands, was in 1999. At World Cups, the Dutch have won the previous two matches against Brazil including quarter-finals of the last World Cup.

 9)     Head to head both teams are tied at three wins apiece from 11 matches with five resulting in draws and in these matches both teams have scored 15 goals each.
