Cameroon vs Brazil, Group A, FIFA World Cup 2014

Cameroon: Known as the Indomitable Lions, Cameroon have set an example of what African football can offer on the world stage. They are the first side from Africa to reach the quarter-finals of the competition in 1990. Since then, Cameroon have always failed to go beyond the Group Stage of the tournament whenever they have qualified for the World Cup. Samuel Eto’o and company will target a good finish in Brazil this time.

Brazil: The Brazil national football team have taken part in every edition of the FIFA World Cup and are currently the record holders of the coveted trophy. Having lifted the trophy on five occasions, the Selecao are currently nursing a hangover. The hangover being the Maracanazo which translates to “the Maracana blow”, as Brazil lost the final to Uruguay the last time they hosted the FIFA World Cup in their back yard (at the Estadio de Maracana) in 1950. Anything lesser than the trophy this time will be deemed another national tragedy.

Total Matches Played: 4

Cameroon 1 Win, Brazil 3 Wins, 0 Draw

(170 Mins)

The Estadio Nacional are in celebration mode now. Every attack is greeted with a roar and the songs are just getting louder and louder. Brazil come at pace again and Willian tries to sidefoot one in from the left but Itandje is equal to it.

(169 Mins)

There will be four minutes of added time at the end of this match.

(168 Mins)

The match is winding down now as it looks like both sides are content with things just the way they are. Cameroon fire the ball down the middle and Webo almost troubles Luiz before he clears the danger.

(165 Mins)

And now Croatia have scored in the other game. So it looks almost certainly like Brazil will be facing Chile in the round of 16 and Mexico will be playing Netherlands. Shame as it could have been an interesting rematch between Brazil and Netherlands after the Dutch side knocked Selecao out of the 2010 World Cup in the Quarterfinals.

(163 Mins)

Fernandinho makes absolutely sure Brazil are winning Group A. Hes been the best player since he came on at the start of the second half. Cameroon give the ball away and after a slick, one touch move which he starts, he gets the ball back from Oscar and curls it around Itandje.

(163 Mins)

Cameroon 1-4 Brazil (Fernandinho)

(160 Mins)

Its now three-nil to Mexico which means if this game remains 3-1 to Brazil and Mexico get one more goal, they will leapfrog Brazil to the top of Group A and face Chile in the next round instead of the Netherlands. Brazil are currently only top based on goals scored.

(159 Mins)

Cameroon make their final substitution, Eric Choupo Moting comes on for Jean Makoun.

(158 Mins)

Stephane Mbia is the third Cameroon player to be booked tonight after he trips the ankles of Luiz Gustavo who was making a lung-busting run up the field.

(155 Mins)

Brazil will be hoping theres no serious injury with Neymar if they do indeed qualify for the knock-out rounds tonight. He jarred is ankle in training just before the start of the tournament but managed to get fit before the opening game with Croatia. Then and tonight hes proved just how crucial he is to Scolaris side.

(154 Mins)

A yellow card for Edgar Salli after taking down Dani Alves with a particularly nasty looking challenge.

(152 Mins)

Mexico have just gone two nil up against Croatia and if the scores remain as they are Brazil will finish top of Group A on goal-difference and will face Chile in the next round whilst Mexico will go up against the Netherlands.

(152 Mins)

Two goals against Croatia, two goals tonight. Some night for Brazils main man. But hell want their World Cup hat-trick.

(151 Mins)

Cameroon make a substitution themselves. Aboubakar is off for Achille Webo.

(151 Mins)

Injury or not but Brazil are taking no chances. They were making a change anyway but have brought Neymar off instead and hes replaced by Willian.

(148 Mins)

A number of Brazil attacks are thwarted and Cameroon break at pace. Aboubakar with a backheel pass but some resolute defending this time kepps them at bay. Neymar gets the ball back and fancies a run himself, sprinting up field but is brought down, whether he fell or was fouled is not yet clear but the Brazil man is on the ground in pain.

(146 Mins)

Ramires is free down the right and sees Neymar sprinting toward the penalty box. He tries a long arcing pass on the ground that doesnt look like itll get there but it doesnt matter as Neymar is flagged offside. A chance wasted.

(144 Mins)

Brazil are playing some delightful stuff going forward. One touch passing, all the flicks and tricks but seem to press too many forward and are again almost caught on the break. Chile and Netherlands, whichever side Brazil might play in the next round if they win tonight, will most certainly be taking notes.

(142 Mins)

Still yet to score a competitive goal for Brazil. Hulks night is over after he is replaced by Ramires.

(141 Mins)

At one end Neymar tries an outrageous bit of skill when hes trapped between a Cameroon defender and the touch line, rolling the ball backward onto his heel and trying to flick it up, but it doesnt come off. At the other David Luiz almost puts Brazil in danger with a header that looks to be short but Cesar is aware and collects.

(139 Mins)

Just a small lull in play after the explosion of emotion after Freds goal. Fernandinho has been handing out a few fouls and will have to be careful not to get booked. For Brazil, if Neymar, Thiago Silva and Luis Gustavo are booked tonight, theyll be banned for Brazils next game.

(138 Mins)

Cameroon make their first change of the night. Moukandjo Bile is coming off for Edgar Salli.

(136 Mins)

Brazil are looking to add to Cameroons misery but Bedimo pulls off some great defending, matching the forward stride for stride to prevent Hulk first crossing the ball to a waiting Neymar in the centre and second his fearsome shot.

(135 Mins)

Cameroon are on a six match losing streak at the moment that looks like it could soon be seven if this score stays the same. Thats the longest ever for an African Country.

(132 Mins)

He only scored one goal in the last 12 months for Brazil before today Fred. But was such a key player in Brazils Confederation Cup win last year. Will that goal kick-start his tournament? Meanwhile, Bedimo is on the ground getting treatment after a crunching Fernandinho tackle. Cameroon boss Volker Finke can only grimace from the touchline.

(131 Mins)

But was he offside? TV replays seem to suggest that Fred may have indeed been offside. Brazil wont care. Theyre in free flow now, racing forward at pace with each attack.

(128 Mins)

A goal Fred and all of Brazil have surely been waiting for. A corner is cleared but the Gustavo gets the ball to David Luiz on the left, he cuts in a great cross that flies past Thiago Silva but Fred nods it home. Scolari kept faith with the striker in the Confederations Cup after a slow start to that tournament and was key to Brazils win, Scolaris doing the same here.

(128 Mins)

Cameroon 1-3 Brazil (Fred)

(127 Mins)

Neymar with the free kick and hes almost got his hat-trick. He curls it in from the left and almost beats Itandje but the keeper gets enough and keeps Cameroon in this.

(127 Mins)

Eyong is tangling with Neymar again and Brazil have a free-kick early in the second half.

(125 Mins)

Fernandinho releases Hulk who looks to be in before an absolutely brilliant tackle from Bedimo. The ball is back in Brazil hands and Fred fires a powerful drive toward the right of the goal but Itandje is equal to it.

(123 Mins)

The second half begins - One change to report at the start of the half. Paulinho is replaced by Fernandinho in the Brazilian midfield.

(120 Mins)

Remember this face? This Brazil fan found internet fame after he, and his Adios Espana sign, were shown in TV pictures during Brazils game against Mexico just after Spain were knocked out of the competition. Hes back again tonight with a message for Cameroon.

(115 Mins)

That half seemed to have everything. Just what will the second half hold?

(112 Mins)

A back and forth first half, like a pendulum swinging from side to side. Brazil looked like they could score 10 in the first 20 minutes before Cameroon fought back and could have gone ahead but Brazil find themselves in front at the break thanks to Neymar.

(111 Mins)

Who else but Neymar? The face of the 2014 World Cup put Brazil back in-front, scoring a second great goal.

(109 Mins)

But The Indomitable Lions showed that they do indeed have teeth when they bit back to equalise through defender Joel Matip after a good period of play and pressure.

(108 Mins)

Brazil were expectant and they werent disappointed. A lightening start from Selecao and they were one up in the first 20 minutes by their main man Neymar.

(107 Mins)

HALF TIME - Thats the last significant action of the half and it ends Cameroon 1-2 Brazil.

(106 Mins)

Hulk misses a sitter! This is more like it from Brazil. Oscar to Neymar who spins whilst he passes it to Paulinho, he hits a quick, one-touch pass to Hulk but the Zenit strikers shot is deflected high and wide.

(105 Mins)

Marcelo takes down a high ball before skipping past Nyom and finding Hulk but his first touch is poor and Itandje collects. There will be one minute of injury time.

(103 Mins)

But theres danger here for Brazil. Aboubakar races forward at the Brazil defence, Luiz steps across him and the referee blows for a free kick. 90 seconds before the half time break, Brazil will not want to concede here.

(102 Mins)

David Luiz with a marauding run and he almost plays a great one-two with Fred but its cut out. Moukandjo races forward on the break but Thiago Silva stops him in his tracks with a beautifully timed, textbook tackle.

(100 Mins)

Thats Neymars third goal of the tournament and sixth in his last five Brazil caps. Some record. Meanwhile, Eric Choupo Moting shoots and can only find the side netting. Cesar had it covered but Brazil still have to be careful here. Cameroon have shown they have teeth.

(98 Mins)

Hulk with his trademark piledriver of a shot from 30 yards. Its heading in but Itandje manages to push it around the post. The resulting corner comes to nothing.

(97 Mins)

Scolari was looking agitated before Neymars goal and gesturing wildly from the touchline but his star-striker has bailed Brazil out again.

(94 Mins)

Hes done it again! Give him room at your peril. Cameroons midfield all seem to step forward at once and the space between them is exploited by Neymar. He receives the ball and tricks his way past Nyom and into the penalty area giving Itandje the eyes before firing past the keepers right.

(94 Mins)

Cameroon 1-2 Brazil (Neymar)

(93 Mins)

Another dangerous attack. Cameroon have a corner thats missed in the centre but comes to Allan Nyom in left former of the penalty box, he tries to curl it in but Luiz makes a block.

(89 Mins)

Theres a deathly silence in the Estadio Nacional now as Cameroon look ever more dangerous and are launching wave after wave of attack. Bedimo has space down the left and is released by an intelligent pass by Moukandjo Bile but hes just offside. Brazil, and their fans, look very worried indeed.

(88 Mins)

Cameroon are indeed here to spoil the party it seems. Its a first international goal for defender Matip and Cameroons first at this World Cup. A corner flies in and is cleared but Brazil fail to move out of their defence. The Cameroon defenders are still in the Brazil box and Nyom drifts in from the right, cuts the ball across the face of goal and Matip taps in.

(86 Mins)

Cameroon 1-1 Brazil (Matip)

(85 Mins)

Cameroon hit the post! However good Brazil look in their attack, their defence is looking just as suspect. A deflected shot gives Cameroon a corner and a header crashes off the bar, Brazil have to be careful here...

(83 Mins)

Cameroon are in real danger of being ripped to shreds. Another Brazil attack, almost another goal. This time Fred cannot get the right connection from a Paulinho cutback and falls over. But Itandje fumbles the save. Fred then tries to score first with his leg, then lunges with his head but cant get any connection with the ball.

(80 Mins)

And Neymar almost scores again. Brazil with another great break down the right. The ball is curled over to Neymar on the left of the penalty area and he unleashes a brilliant first time, left footed volley which Itnadge can only parry away.

(79 Mins)

Brazil score their 100th goal in their 100th game at the World Cup finals, and theres 70 minutes to go. How ugly could this get for Cameroon now? Thats just the start Brazil would have wanted.

(77 Mins)

Push Neymar over at your peril. The forward with his 34th international goal for Brazil. But its all about Luiz Gustavo. The midfielder presses Cameroon on the left and retrieves the ball before unleashing an almighty, low cross toward Neymar in the penalty area who calmy slots it past Itandje.

(77 Mins)

Cameroon 0-1 Brazil (Neymar)

(75 Mins)

The crowd are baying for blood after it appears Allan Nyom shoves Neymar over while the forward was going to collect a ball for a corner. No card from the referee, surprisingly.

(74 Mins)

A free kick by Cameroon almost troubles Cesar. Aboubakar with a delightful set piece puts the ball in a really dangerous position but can find no Cameroon heads. If there was any contact it would have been a goal.

(73 Mins)

Cameroon come forward again. Aboubakar plays Choupa Moting in with a great ball whos cross is headed away with some last ditch defending by Daivd Luiz. After a breathless opening few minutes for Brazil, Cameroon have definitely come back into this.

(72 Mins)

Eyong Enoh is the first player to be booked tonight. His challenge on Marcelo is deemed too aggressive by referee Eriksson.

(-1058985863 Mins)

Cameroon send a warning shot, theyre not just here to make up the numbers. Cameroon get forward and the ball breaks to Aboubakar who is by himself on the edge of the penalty box. He wraps his foot around the ball and it looks like its heading to the bottom right corner with some pace but Marcelo finds himself in the right place at the right time to make a block.

(67 Mins)

Freds miserable form continutes. Hulk races forward and beats Bedimo once again, he plays a cute pass back to Fred whos shot is easily deflected out for a corner. The resulting set piece comes to nothing and is easily collected by Itandje. A lively start.

(65 Mins)

Its deafening inside the Estadio Nacional. Every time Brazil come forward there is an expectant roar from the crowd.

(62 Mins)

Brazil almost off to the perfect start. Neymar somehow beats the offside trap and plays in Hulk who takes a touch before pulling it back to Paulinho. The midfielder should score but his shot is blocked and the ball is hooked away.

(61 Mins)

Brazil burst forward immediately. Bedimo takes Hulk down after the forward sprints up the right side of the field and its an early free kick for Brazil. Hulk proceeds to try and whip up the already energetic crowd who respond with a mighty roar.

(60 Mins)

KICK OFF - Swedish referee Jonas Eriksson blows the whistle and we are away in Brasilia.

(59 Mins)

The anthems have been played and we are just a few minutes away. Will Scolaris side find their spark after a hit and miss opening two ties? Cameroon, you feel, would be the perfect opposition for Brasil to find their World Cup feet.

(58 Mins)

The Brazilian fans inside the Estadio Nacional carry on their tradition of singing the second verse of the national anthem despite the music being switched off. Its certainly spine-tingling and inspiring and maybe their side can use it to help win tonight.

(55 Mins)

Hulk returns to the Brazil side after a late fitness test and replaces Ramires. Thats the only change from Selecaos 0-0 draw with Mexico. Cameroon, however, are without their talismanic striker Samuel Etoo who has been declared unfit.

(53 Mins)

For Cameroon it has been a terrible World Cup. No goals scored, no points in their group and theyre already eliminated from the World Cup. There has also been fallouts between team-mates and disagreements with national federations. The Indomitable Lions will want to forget Brazil 2014 quickly.

(51 Mins)

Brazil will be optimistic however as the last time they failed to top a World Cup group was in 1978 and they last lost a group game match 16 years ago to Norway in France 1998.

(47 Mins)

This is a crucial game for Luiz Felipe Scolari and his Brazil side who have to avoid defeat tonight to ensure they qualify for the knockout rounds. A draw will guarantee their place in the last 16 but theyll be hoping to secure a victory which could allow them to face Chile, rather than Netherlands, in the next round, if they better Mexico or Croatias final goal difference.

(46 Mins)

Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the Group A game where Brazil will be facing Cameroon at the Estadio Nacional in Brasilia.
