(158 Mins)

Italy dominate possession, but they seem to be lacking ideas when they come into the final third. They need something magic to find an equaliser.

(157 Mins)

Costa Rica are just over 10 minutes away from a second consecutive World Cup win. Will they manage to cling on to this result?

(155 Mins)

Italy are struggling to link up in attack. Costa Rica defend with at least five/six players standing in a solid line and leave little space for the pacey Italian forwards to exploit.

(153 Mins)

(134 Mins)

Another change for Italy. Napolis Lorenzo Insigne replaces Candreva. The pint-sized forward player could spark Italys creativity up front.

(118 Mins)

Buffon pulls off a flying save, but he cannot do anything to sweep the ball away before it crosses the line.

(116 Mins)

The Azzurri have been very sluggish in the first half and need to do much better after the break if they want to salvage something from this game. Balotelli had a couple of chances to put Italy in front, but his efforts were saved by the effective goalkeeping of Keylor Navas.

(113 Mins)

Bryan Ruizs opening goal sparks wild celebrations at the Arena Pernambuco. If Costa Rica win today they can become the only non-European country, other than Brazil and Argentina, to beat two former World Cup winners in a single tournament.

(110 Mins)

Costa Rica have been the more ambitious and attacking-minded side in this first half and deserve to be in front. Just minutes before Ruiz gave them the lead with a stunning header, the Central Americans appealed for a penalty that the referee should have awarded them.

(108 Mins)

HALF-TIME - Italy 0 - 1 Costa Rica (Ruiz)

(106 Mins)

Costa Rica take a deserved lead. Diaz drifts in a curling cross from the left hand side that finds Bryan Ruiz who can get a free header at the far post. He beats Buffon sending the ball in and off the bar. Goal line technology shows that the ball crossed the line.

(99 Mins)

Balotelli gets a chipped shot away but he cannot find the back of the net to give Italy the lead.

(96 Mins)

The game has resumed. Italy are bursting forward with attacking intent, but they quickly lose possession.

(95 Mins)

The game has stopped now. There has been a collision between De Rossi and Diaz and the two players are lying down on the ground in pain.

(94 Mins)

(92 Mins)

Chance for Italy. Pirlo finds a pocket of space in the Costa Rican defence and sends a delicious through-ball to Balotelli. The striker has only Navas to beat, but he chips the ball wide of the post.

(90 Mins)

(82 Mins)

Balotelli dribbles his way into the box, but the Costa Rican defenders eventually manage to crowd him out and get the ball off him.

(80 Mins)

Campbell delivers a ball that is too high for everybody and does nothing to trouble Italys defence.

(79 Mins)

Italy are giving away possession carelessly today. Now there is a great chance from a corner kick for Costa Rica.

(78 Mins)

Balotelli is feeling a bit lonely up front. He is battling it out with the Costa Rican defenders, but his teammates are not giving him much support.

(77 Mins)

Borges sends a powerful header towards Buffon. The ball, though, goes wide over the cross bar.

(75 Mins)

Italy try to create a first scoring chance but their attack breaks down as Abate is offside. The Central Americans have been defending extremely well so far.

(73 Mins)

The Azzurri are particularly wary of Joel Campbell’s energetic pace that could see him sprint in behind their defence. The Arsenal striker, who put his name on the scoresheet against Uruguay, will be hoping to increase his goal tally today.

(71 Mins)

Italy are starting to come forward now, but they are slightly disjointed in their attacking efforts and struggle to break through the solid Costa Rican backline.

(70 Mins)

The two teams line up for the national anthems before kick-off.

(68 Mins)

Chance for Costa Rica. A corner kick is whipped in beautifully by the Central Americans. Borges leaps highest and gets a free header, but he cannot direct the ball towards the goal.

(65 Mins)

Marchisio dispossesses a Costa Rican midfielder and charges down the left flank. He passes the ball into the area for Balotelli, but the striker has no support and eventually gives away possession.

(63 Mins)

We are off to a slow start. Surprisingly, Costa Rica are enjoying most of the possession, while the Italians are happy to sit back at the moment.

(61 Mins)

We are off. Italy in all blue get us underway.

(58 Mins)

Thousands of Costa Rican supporters have turned up at the Arena Pernambuco in Recife today. They seem to be outnumbering their Italian counterparts.

(55 Mins)

The two teams led by their captains are heading out onto the pitch for the national anthems. We are just five minutes away from kick off.

(54 Mins)

This Group D clash is also pivotal to Englands hopes of remaining in the World Cup. The Three Lions’ adventure in Brazil, in fact, will come to a crushing end if Italy do not pick up all three points today.

(52 Mins)

Having scored the winner against England with a thumping header, star striker Mario Balotelli comes into today’s game brimming with confidence. This is what he tweeted yesterday: "If we beat Costa Rica i want a kiss, obviously on the cheek, from the UK Queen."

(48 Mins)

After missing the England match due to an ankle injury, captain Gianluigi Buffon makes his comeback today and returns to defend the Azzurri goal. Coach Prandelli has also shaken up the Italian defence, bringing on Ignazio Abate to replace an under-performing Paletta and shifting Giorgio Chiellini to his natural centre-back position.

(46 Mins)

In their opening match Costa Rica stunned South American champions Uruguay 3-1, in what was one of the biggest surprises of the World Cup so far. Initially regarded as the whipping boys of the so called ‘group of death’, the Central Americans have now enhanced their chances of making it out of the group stages for the first time since Italy ’90.

(45 Mins)

Costa Rica starting line-up (5-3-2): Navas; Gamboa, Duarte, Gonzalez, Umana, Diaz; Borges, Ruiz, Tejeda; Bolanos, Campbell.

(43 Mins)

Italy starting line-up (4-1-4-1): Buffon; Abate, Barzagli, Chiellini, Darmian; De Rossi; Candreva, Pirlo, Motta, Marchisio; Balotelli.

(41 Mins)

As a result of their victorious debut matches, both teams have three precious points, but Costa Rica sit on the top of group D on goal difference. Whatever the result, neither team will be 100 per cent sure of a place in the last 16, but gaining a second consecutive win today will undoubtedly see them put a foot in the knock-out stage.

(40 Mins)

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of this group D clash between Italy and Costa Rica. We are just 20 minutes away from kick-off.
