Brazil Vs Colombia, Quarter Finals - Live Score

SATURDAY 05TH JULY - 1:30AM (LOCAL) | ESTADIO CASTELãO, FORTALEZA

COMPLETED

Brazil Colombia

Brazil: The Selecao have been through thick and thin ever since Brazil was confirmed as the nation to host the World Cup 2014. Brazil barely managed to register victory in the penalties over Chile in their second round. Been touted as hot favourites before the start of the tournament, Brazil have only looked a shadow of themselves. Depending heavily on Neymar, Luiz Scolari’s side will have to rise to occasion against Colombia.

Colombia: Colombia have won all their matches in the tournament so far. This unbeaten side is on song with James Rodriguez on top who also happens to be the leading scorer in this World Cup so far. He has scored in all the four matches and two coming against Uruguay in the round of 16. Not only were they four matches wins, they were convincing wins, that too without their star striker Radamel Falcao playing any part. Even without him, the national side boasts and incredible forward line which attacks with real force and style.

Commentary

(173 Mins)

Will Neymar be fit in time for Brazils next game?

(173 Mins)

Bacca is taken out by Cesar to win the penalty.

(172 Mins)

The ball is bouncing around dangerously in the Brazil box and Yepes comes close to making the vital contact. It goes behind for a corner though which is headed wide by Ramos. Nervous times for Brazil.

(171 Mins)

Hernanes attempts to clip a ball into Ramires over the back of the Columbian defence but it just skips off the surface and away from his teammate and behind for a goal-kick.

(170 Mins)

The fourth official holds up his board and its going to be five minutes of injury time. Scolari is furious but there have been plenty of stoppages in this half and five seems fair.

(169 Mins)

Oscar challenges Armero.

(168 Mins)

Neymar is replaced by Henrique, the Napoli defender, as Brazil hang onto their lead.

(167 Mins)

Meanwhile Neymar has gone down under a late tackle from Zuniga. Hes going to be stretchered off here and Scolari will be hoping his star man can recover in time for any semi-final fixtures.

(166 Mins)

Columbia have another corner which is taken by Quintero and cleared by Ramires. Oscar picks up the loose ball and makes his way into the Columbian half where he is taken out by Quintero and Brazil can take some time running down the clock.

(166 Mins)

Paulinho makes way for Hernanes.

(164 Mins)

That was Rodriguezs sixth goal of the tournament and he is now two clear of Messi, Mueller and Neymar at the top of the goalscoring charts. If Columbia cant find an equaliser though thatll be where his wonderful tournament ends.

(164 Mins)

Columbia are back in it.

(163 Mins)

Rodriguez sends Cesar the wrong way.

(163 Mins)

Quintero is on fro Cuadrado and he elects to take a corner for his side which Silva deals with well.

(162 Mins)

Hulk, who has been wasteful tonight, is coming off for Ramires as Brazil look to close out the game.

(160 Mins)

That goal has completely turned this game on its head. Columbia have got a corner and the ball is crossed in towards Bacca who heads the ball narrowly wide. The flag was up for offside anyway so it wouldnt;t have counted.

(159 Mins)

Rodriguez steps up confidently and after a delay while Hulk relays some instructions sends Cesar the wrong way and rolls the ball into the net.

(159 Mins)

Brazil 2-1 Columbia (Rodriguez)

(157 Mins)

Rodriguez feeds the ball into Bacca who gets to the ball before Cesar and pokes it past the onrushing keeper. Cesar clatters into Bacca who hits the deck and the referee points to the spot. Its going to be a yellow for Cesar who is saved by Luiz who was coming across to cover else hed have been off.

(157 Mins)

Its a penalty for Columbia!

(157 Mins)

Brazil look set for the semis.

(155 Mins)

Luiz celebrates his goal.

(153 Mins)

Neymar comes close to giving his side an unassailable lead with a curling shot from the edge of the box but he cant quite wrap his foot around the ball enough and Ospina can watch it go wide.

(153 Mins)

Yepes goes into the book for a late tackle.

(152 Mins)

By my count that was David Luizs 134th attempt at scoring a free-kick from that kind of range since he last put one away so it was inevitable one would fly in eventually. A stopped clock is right twice a day after all.

(151 Mins)

Bacca is on for Columbia as they try to get a foothold in this game. Gutierrez makes way.

(149 Mins)

Its a stunner from Luiz. The centre-back steps up and smashes a free-kick past Ospina with his trademark side foot technique to give his side a 2-0 lead which should take them through to the semi-finals.

(148 Mins)

Brazil 2-0 Columbia (Luiz)

(147 Mins)

Brazil have got the ball in the back of the net but the flag is up for offside. Its a good call from the linesman who spotted Luiz just off from a free-kick. The ball was eventually bundled in but the flag went up early.

(145 Mins)

Now the cards are out though. Its Silva who goes into the book for seemingly attempting to block Ospinas punt downfield and its a rather odd decision given what the referee has let go earlier in the game.

(143 Mins)

Neymar is taken out by Cuadrado who made no attempt to play the ball but the referee is inexplicably keeping his cards in his pocket.

(142 Mins)

Rodriguez whips the ball in towards Zapata and it almost falls for the defender but the ball ricocheted off a Brazilian leg and the ball goes clear.

(141 Mins)

Theres cheers coming from the Brazil fans but its in recognition of clearances and tackles rather than flowing attacks. Columbia are well and truly on the front foot here and theyve got a chance to put the ball in the box after Cuadrado is tripped by Marcelo over by the touchline.

(140 Mins)

Rodriguez gets on the ball.

(139 Mins)

Armero pulls the ball back to Rodriguez on the edge of the box and it almost sits up for a perfect replica of the volley he scored against Uruguay. The ball is a little too high however and he decides to drop the ball off the Guarin instead who does take on the volley which he blazes over the bar.

(137 Mins)

Silva is down after stretching to tackle Ramos and he looks in real pain. Eventually hes back on his feet though and the Brazil captain looks fine to continue.

(135 Mins)

Paulinho attempts to surge forward from midfield before offloading the bal to Hulk on the right. He loses the ball however and Columbia get the ball away.

(134 Mins)

Hulk runs at the Columbian defence.

(132 Mins)

Brazil should have had a corner there after Neymars free-kick flicks off the head of Zapata. The referee signals a goal-kick however and Columbia can regain possession.

(129 Mins)

Hulk fouls Zuniga in the Brazil half and Cuadrado has an opportunity to put the ball into the box. Its headed clear by the Brazil defence and the ball comes out to Rodriguez who tries a neat reverse-pass to Cuadrado but its slightly too strong and Cesar can gather.

(126 Mins)

Ramos earned himself a move to Borussia Dortmund off the back of an excellent last season with Hertha Berlin and has been preferred to Martinez and Bacca as Jose Pekerman looks to turn things around.

(121 Mins)

Its Adrian Ramos who is going to replace Ibarbo for this second-half as Brazil get things underway.

(116 Mins)

Its been another dreadful 45 minutes for Fred at the apex of the Brazilian attack. The Fluminese striker has barely had a touch of the ball, let alone threatened the Columbian goal, but will it matter for Brazil? Theyve made it this far without an effective performance from their number nine, how long can it continue?

(112 Mins)

Neymar watches his free-kick whistle wide of the post.

(109 Mins)

HALF-TIME - The referee blows to signal an end to an excellent first 45 minutes here in Brazil. The hosts will be delighted to go into the break in front against a Columbian side who many tipped them to struggle against. The Columbians have started to come into things a little more following a shaky start but theyre going to need more from players like Cuadrado and Rodriguez if theyre going to find a way back into the game. Expect to see Jackson Martinez or Carlos Bacca introduced at some point in the second-half if things dont pick up with Gutierrez struggling as a lone striker so far.

(108 Mins)

Fernandinho is in late on Rodriguez and hes lucky to escape a yellow-card. The ball comes to Oscar in space in the Columbian half and he can advance but when he gives the ball to Hulk on the left the Zenit forward loses the ball and Columbia clear.

(106 Mins)

Its Neymar who hits the shot towards the far corner but the ball doesnt curl back in enough and Ospina is untroubled.

(105 Mins)

Some nice control from Fred enables the forward to b ring Neymar into play and hes fouled by Zuniga on the edge of the area and now Brazil have an excellent opportunity to double their lead.

(102 Mins)

Luiz pats Zapata after the Columbian halts his run.

(100 Mins)

Its been an exhilirating first 40 minutes here. Both sides have fashionedn plenty of opportunities and at times it has been genuinely end-to-end stuff. This time its Hulk who works a yard of space in the box but he can only lash his shot wide of the post.

(99 Mins)

Cuadrado, Guarin and Rodgriguez spend a few moments plotting their set-piece routine and eventually Rodriguez smashes it towards goal. Two Brazilian defenders come charging out of the wall however and the ball strikes one of them and rebounds to safety.

(97 Mins)

The referee has penalised Fernandinho for a high foot and now Columbia have a free-kick right on the edge of the box.

(96 Mins)

Maicon has won a corner over on the right off of Ibarbo and again its Neymar to deliver. He aims the ball towards Fernandinho who wins the flick-on but then watches the ball sail wide.

(92 Mins)

Luiz wins a tackle against Gutierrez and embarks on one of his enterprising runs from deep. The centre-back manages to skip past several tackles before he finally loses the ball to Zapata. Its a long way back for Luiz but fortunately for Brazil Oscar is there to win the ball back and spare his out-of-position teammates blushes.

(91 Mins)

Neymar jumps for a header.

(89 Mins)

Marcelo puts the ball into Hulk at the second time of asking and he smashes a shot across Ospina who does well to get down and save. Brazil look very dangerous.

(86 Mins)

Ibarbo seems confused as to whether the game has stopped after the players get into a disagreement over a tackle on Paulinho. He has the ball pinched from him and Brazil are not making the same mistake as they try to break at the Columbian backline. Eventually Columbia win back possession but that would have been controversial had anything come of the attack.

(84 Mins)

A sparkling run from Rodriguez almost brings up a big chance for Columbia. Rodriguez shifts the ball right to Cuadrado who is well placed to take it on and shoot but he elects to play the ball back inside and its blocked.

(83 Mins)

Silva opens the scoring.

(81 Mins)

Ospina is called into action twice in quick succession as Hulk makes his way into the box and unleashes a shot. He parries the effort and it comes out to Oscar on the edge of the box but his volley is weak and the keeper can cling onto the ball.

(79 Mins)

The corner is headed away by Yepes but Cuadrado dwells on the ball on the edge of the area and Hulk is there to steal the ball from him. He bursts into the box and aims the ball towards the back post and it takes an excellent block from Armero to take the ball away from David Luiz.

(78 Mins)

Columbia are looking a little shell-shocked after Brazils explosive opening. Theyve conceded a cheap corner here which they need to defend a lot better than the last one if theyre going to stay in the game.

(76 Mins)

Thiago Silva celebrates his opening goal.

(73 Mins)

First chance for Columbia, Its Cuadrado who hits the shot after cutting inside from right but the balls takes a nick off Silva and whistles past Cesars near post. The corner is taken by Cuadrado but its poor and doesnt beat the first man.

(71 Mins)

Its some really poor marking from the Columbians. Sanchez allowed Silva to run straight past him and into a goalscoring position from where he makes no mistake, Its a massive goal for the defender who has come under heavy criticism this week following his refusal to take a penalty in the shoot-out against Chile.

(69 Mins)

Its the perfect start for Brazil as their captain gives them the lead. Neymar puts the corner into the box and none of the Columbian defenders can head the ball clear. It comes to Silva at the back post and hes there completely unmarked to prod the ball home from close range.

(68 Mins)

Brazil 1-0 Columbia (Silva)

(67 Mins)

Marcelo takes on Cuadrado.

(66 Mins)

Brazil are going to have an early chance here as they win a free-kick in a dangerous area. Its fairly central and Neymar steps up to shoot but he can only curl his effort wide of the post.

(63 Mins)

Columbia are clearly trying to mark Neymar out of the game. Carlos Sanchez is following the Selecao poster boy around the pitch at present even when he decides to take a trip to the touchline. Could that open up some space in front of the Columbian centre-backs for Brazil to exploit?

(62 Mins)

Its Columbia who gets things under way playing in their red change strip.

(58 Mins)

The Brazilians belt out their anthem in ever-enthusiastic style and were almost ready to go. Will the hosts finally bring some Joga Bonito to the party here tonight to beat a strong Columbia side or is this the game where Neymar and Co. come unstuck?

(50 Mins)

Earlier today Germany held on to beat France 1-0 and the winner of tonights game will be taking on the Germans in the first of the two semi-finals.

(46 Mins)

Neymar warms up.

(46 Mins)

Brazil fans await their clash with Columbia.

(42 Mins)

Things look a little rosier for Columbia however. Theyve won every game so far this summer and in James Rodriguez have a top-quality player in the form of his life who scored what will surely be the goal of the tournament against Uruguay last time out. Juan Cuadrado has also impressed with his performances on the wing and he could well give Marcelo a torrid time tonight if hes in the mood.

(36 Mins)

The hosts were supposed to shine at this World Cup after an impressive Confederations Cup win back in 2013. Things havent quite gone to plan so far though with the Selecao struggling to gel in attack in particular. Their goalscoring threat seems to come almost entirely from the individual brilliance of Neymar who has lit up his sides games but the supporting cast are yet to step up to the plate. Their woes can be summed up by the plight of Fred who has had an awful tournament and only makes the starting line-up by not being quite as terrible as Scolaris other option, Jo.

(30 Mins)

In the last round Brazil struggled to make it past Chile, eventually progressing after a tense penalty shoot-out. Things were a little easier for Columbia who cruised to a 2-0 win over a Suarez-less Uruguay thanks to two goals from the man of the moment, James Rodriguez.

(25 Mins)

Columbia meanwhile recall Víctor Ibarbo in place of Jackson Martinez in attack while Guarin takes the place of Aguilar in the middle.

(23 Mins)

So its a big call for Scolari who drops Dani Alves to the bench with Maicon coming in as his replacement. Luis Gustavo is suspended so Paulinho returns to the side in central midfield.

(22 Mins)

Columbia (4-2-3-1): Ospina; Armero, Yepes, Zapata, Zuniga; Sanchez, Guarin; Cuadrado, Rodriguez, Ibarbo; Gutierrez.

(21 Mins)

Brazil (4-2-3-1): Cesar; Marcelo, Luiz, Silva, Maicon; Paulinho, Fernandinho; Neymar, Oscar, Hulk; Fred.

(18 Mins)
