El Toro Cantina and Tapas Review: Checkout This New Tapas Bar in Bandra for Some Spanish Delicacies

Located in one of the popular lanes in Bandra, El Toro Cantina and Tapas is the perfect place to spend your lazy Sundays sipping a glass of chilled sangria and enjoying the tapas. This was our first impression of the place and for those who do not know, tapa is a Spanish snack or appetizer. El Toro, which means the bull, is a Spanish restaurant was launched this year and it serves some authentic Spanish dishes.

We were invited to a brunch and boy, we were impressed! The restaurant has a very European feel with large windows, customized furniture and some Spanish artworks on the wall. The Chef and one of the Founders, Onkar Samarth, informed about the dishes available for the brunch.

The brunch

The brunch

The brunch started with a glass of white sangria and there was a distinct flavor of peach in it. Sangria with peachy flavor was different and delightful. The first dish that reached our table was chicken liver pate with thin slices of toasted bread. The buttery consistency and the strong taste of chicken liver may not be for everybody but it is a must try. The crispy bread and the rich taste of chicken liver pate was a delicious combination.

Patata Bravas

Then we had patata bravas, Chicken Wings, onion rings, calamares fritos, cheese quesadilla and German style chicken sausages. Patata bravas is a dish made of potato with Spanish sauce and it is another dish you shouldn’t miss. Calamares fritos and onion rings were crispy, while cheese quesadilla was a soft and melt-in-your-mouth type of dish. This was just the dishes we had from the kitchen. There was a separate salad bar.

The salad bar had everything from pink oyster mushrooms to pickled gherkins to different types of lettuce. There were breads, dips and four salad dressings. Onkar informed us that many raw ingredients are imported, some are bought fresh from the local market and some are grown by him.

Risotto

Risotto

We just ordered red bell pepper risotto for the main course. The rice in rich red bell pepper cream sauce was, again, delicious. The brunch ended with a slice of butter bread pudding and dark chocolate mousse.

Chocolate mousse

The butter bread pudding was baked to perfection and had a golden crust with a soft center. The dark chocolate was rich and creamy.
